Rumor has it that American Eagle sent a message to their pilots talking about the requirement for a SIC Type Rating for international flights (ICAO rules). Anyone know anything about this???

Second-in-Command Pilot Type Rating

AGENCY: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), DOT.

ACTION: Final rule.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

SUMMARY: The FAA is amending its pilot certification regulations to
establish a second-in-command (SIC) pilot type rating and associated
qualifying procedures. This final rule is needed to conform FAA pilot
type rating requirements to the International Civil Aviation
Organization pilot type rating standards. The intended effect of this
action is to allow U.S. flight crews to continue to operate in
international airspace without the threat of being grounded for not
holding the appropriate pilot type rating.

DATES: This final rule becomes effective on September 6, 2005.

At PSA we got a memo telling us it is now a company requirement. FO's must carry a completed 8710 with them so that when a company checkairmen gets a chance to catch up with them as they go through a crew base they can hand it in and be issued a temporary certificate.

I believe each company is dealing with the logistics of this differently. At XJT we were told that the requirement would be taken care of by the company with no actions needed on our part. Check with your company to see if you need to perform any specific actions to comply with this new one.

.

Can you imagine what the FAA backlog will be to issue out all those new tickets?

We were told to expect our temp certificates to expire and to apply for new temps at around 100 days.
