Everyone is going to have a different answer for this one, but what has been the typical time of employment before your company sends a new hire FO to school for a type rating?

Not SIC school, but inital training for type rating.

The reason that I ask is that my last two jobs have sent me to school immediatley upon hire.
I have a co-worker that has been offered a job in a larger jet (604) with another company, but that company is not going to send him to school until he is there for at least 6 months.

I thought that this is a bit different, but wanted to see what others have seen since all my experience is in smaller flight departments.

Thanks for the replies.

Vortex,

There are so many variables to consider, but I'm guessing if you're friend has already been told they'll be typed in six months, he's got the time and experience to go with it.

Company's vary. I know of a few that require so much total time before typing a pilot. Others require time with the company. Personally I was hired on the Ultra and took two years to be typed in the Falcon. Another guy was hired with low time, <1000 hours and it took him about two years before being typed on the Citation.

Frankly, I don't think six months is asking anything. This gives them time to evaluate your friend as a long term employee and also gives your friend time to see if this is the company he wants to work for. I certainly wouldn't be offended if asked to wait six months.
