SIC for FE Time?

Curious on what some of you think of giving up RJ SIC time for panel time if I was to be offered a position as such. Thanks!

Well, not sure. I'm just about desperate though. I cant handle the place I'm at anymore. Its not worth it. Too much for me to get into but its bad and no I'm from mesa. I'm very interested in cargo and am curious what chances I might have. I'm at about 3700 TT with 1500 multi and about 1300 of it turbine. No 121 PIC. Anyone reading this thread with any ideas let me know, I'm desperate! Fedex and UPS? Ha I wish!

It depends on the operator you're looking at. It could be a decent opportunity, or it could be worse.

Take a good look at the payscales. some of those places don't pay a whole lot more than you make flying an RJ and they fly heavies. You also have to look into the QOL. Some cargo carriers have 14 on 14 off or similar schedules. That's a big change from the 4 on 3 off that is common at regionals. I've got connections at Evergreen and Gemini and right now i wouldnt leave my regional to work for either of them, nothing against either of those companies.

Why would you apply for an FE position? Do you have an FE rating? Do you want to buy one? Unless the operator only hires into the FE position first (and there's only a handful that do) why not try to get on with a cargo outfit as SIC? The PFE is more valuable to the cargo guy anyhow since he can fix or defer anything while on the road and that positon rarely leads to the right seat.

What is it that makes anyplace else better than where you're at? And how will you explain that at your next interview?

I wouldn't quit a SIC for a FE slot unless it is with a good airline.
Don't waste your time with a DBA or a side step for your career.
