Haven't we orbited the earth enough? Why can't unmanned drones to this? How many times are we gonna launch the shuttle to see how ants dig tunnels while in space?

(about a hundred years ago, about those crazy Wright Bros.)
"Haven't they jumped down those sand dunes enough?" "How many times they gotta do this to show bicycles can fly." "What the he!! ya gonna do with a flyin' bicycle anyway!"

There have been how many launches? 114 or so? This is the first one to have this many cameras watching right? How much stuff has falled off of the other spacecraft that was never seen?
NASA admits that shuttles have returned numerous times with minor damage to the heat shield, probably caused by debris.
Spaceflight is a tremendous risk. But with risk, comes great rewards. Maybe not for our generations, but definitely for future generations.
If being a pioneer was easy, everyone would be doing it.

save the Wright Brothers and Ernie Gann et all feel good pioneer sh1t. Fact is, there are cheaper and safer ways to accomplish said mission

CANCEL IT NOW

Simple fix. Go back to the original formula. NASA caved to the greenies and put this "enviromentally friendly" stuff on the external tank and killed seven people in the process.

It is God's judgement on the program because NASA wouldn't let the first qualified women astronaut go into space-Jerrie Cobb. Then when they had the chance to send her as a senior astronaut they chose John Glenn. What goes around comes around.BTW Jerrie rated higher on all the astronaut tests than any of the men.

Stop whining, it's imperative that we maintain our space program.

Why? The only thing thats been accomplished by all this spending is bragging rights to a country that doesn't exist any longer.

On the last Shuttle flight, they had about 30 Camera's watching... Half of them where not even working as NASA did what they do best.... got complacent and thought we don't need to have them fixed, we can get away with it this time right ? 1996 was a long time ago...
