Could someone tell me how these airlines are seperated. I mean shuttle and republic fly the 170s and Chautauqua flies the Rjs. Are they all seperate entities and seniority or what? Does Bedford run all of them? Just curious. I flew on shuttle the other day and tried to get some info out of the FA but she was clueless.

Just curious.
 
They are seperate operating 121 certifiactes, but I think they are all one company.

Ex. Mesa and Freedom are one company, different certs., but SKW and ASA are seperate companies owned by a holding company.

Most importantly, the pilot list is integrated, but there are some limitations on switching certificates.

Operated under one holdings company called Republic Airways Holdings. The seniority list are all integrated to keep the next pilot in line moving up and avoid whipsawing one certificate against another.

They are ran internally as separate companies. However, they each have their own crew schedulers, chief pilots, etc.

We are very glad we are integrated. Limitations are that once you upgrade to CA you are seatlocked for two years before able to move to another aircraft/cert. So if a base opens up in your back yard and you're a commuter you're stuck commuting. One provision that I would like to see changed is that at RAH you can't change aircraft unless it pays more OR if you get company approval.

So once again you fly the E170 and a 145 base opens up in your home town. You'd never be able to go to the 145 as a capt because it pays less unless the company approved it. 99.9% of the time they never will as now they have to train two people.
 
Shuttle America (once a fun place)

SA (a.k.a. Shuttlecraft at one time) was a great and fun place to work pre-chapter 11 days. Big Dash 8 aircraft that were roomy both in the cockpit and cabin. BUF crew base parties were the things to talk about. Training in Canada was a real hoot also. Black leather jackets that were easy to use on the road as an RON jacket. Great people throughout the company!

It was fun until a few key people came in and ran the company into the ground. Once down, people put on the street and other fun personalities left to live. Down to one airplane, still flying and looking at the blackhole for the edge. Along came a very large and wealthy holding company to bring Shuttle out of chapter 11. The smaller Dash 8's followed until the SAAB 340 could arrive. The US AIR costume came also and so did the large company non family attitude. I'll take that since I still had a job. Shortly after the time came to bail out and move on to better things in this life.

I knew it was really over when I heard ATC stop speaking the Shuttlecraft callsign. I can not bring myself to even say let alone write the new callsign.

My question is why the change and what does the new one stand for anyway?

I tip my hat to any and all of the Shuttle family circa 1998-2004

basically 3 airlines under one "holding group" called RAH. All are seperate 121 certs.

Republic - US Airways E170/175 (they also did the Frontier in DEN but it is going away. 57 total planes on the Republic cert, 17ish 170's and the rest 175's, again for a total of 57.

Shuttle America - not sure on the numbers but they do United and Delta E170 flying.

Chautauqua - E135/140/145/CRJ flying for US Air, UAL, Delta, CAL, AA

Pilot wise the senority list is the same across the 3. You cannot xfer from one cert to the other whilly nilly like. You can only xfer when you bid up. like e145 fo at chq to e170 ca at shuttle. another example would be crj ca to e170 ca at rep. no fo to fo xfer. You can't go from 170 ca to 145 or crj ca also.
 
Okay before everyone gets carried away the "mainline" thing it's an inside joke that someone probably misunderstood.

No way - a misunderstanding.. Someone misinterpeting what someone else said about someone. Never happens on this board...No way...Just can't believe it...
 
The Burrito Bombers were commonly known as Chautauqua Mainline when they operated on the same cert. It is a joke.
 
I heard someone at RAH the other day describe himself as 'mainline'.

If you overheard them speaking to a friend or fellow RJET employee that likely could have been the case. For instance, "I'm over at mainline" or "I am on the heavy jet now" which in RJET circles would immediately indicate that he or she is a 170 crew...an inside joke since the 170 arrived on property.

So in what context did you "hear" this person speaking?
 
Probally overheard a old Mid-Atlantic J4J guy saying he was mainline and going back soon. Anytime we would have a jumpseater, the J4J guys would go out of their way to let them know they are mainline pilots. I guess the jumpseater would respect them more???:rolleyes:
 
The one seniority list is an absolute joke. Grab the popcorn and watch how a furlough goes (if and when).

Seniority means nothing at RAH. Management will do what they want, to whomever they want.

E170s are RJs, right? I heard someone at RAH the other day describe himself as 'mainline'.

I've never heard a pilot or FA say that. I have heard a few Chautauqua pilots, some with a bit of attitude, give us the "Oh you're MAINLINE" or "How's everything over at MAINLINE". Most of them also had the gay "UNITY" bag tags too. Ironic.

The FAA made us lose the Shuttlecraft callsign because it was too similar to Mesa's Air Shuttle. I don't know how they came up with Mercury other than it's something space related (Shuttle America--shuttle--space, yeah I know it's a stretch). Still better than Crossroads.
 
Bedford's dad used to work on the Mercury program back in the day.... he liked the name and their you go!
