In the light of Republic buying SA and the latest post saying that all of the SF34's would be weeded out by the end of 2005; Does anyone know when SA's contract is up with UAL?

How could Republic make money flying E145 or even E135's to some of the markets out of IAD?
They would be like 15 min flights in a jet. It seems like UAL's Express system is in need of a serious overhaul.

THe 145s are spoken for unless something with USAir happens. No more are coming. So this flying would just go unreplaced it appears.

Or another contract carrier, like TSA or Mesa could reposition some of their props to IAD. The higher ups here (SA) are not shy about saying that the saabs are going to be on the rapid reduction program soon enough. End of the year, possibly sooner.

For TSA its not like jetstreams are unavailable.

The shortest route we serve (CHO) is also being serviced by a CRJ as are most of our routes.

Somebody contact Colgan to see if they want to pick up some Saab flying.

Positive cash flow will be generated regardless, since the United contract is fee per departure.

I dont know if the 6 month notice has officially been given to UAL, but I can tell you that by replacing the saab with an ERJ on some of our routes would still fill plane. I know our Charlottesville flight is always full or overbooked.

You were talking about short flights... I think there is another UAX carrier that does Dulles to Harrisburg, PA with an rj currently. That is about a 15 minute flight :)

I'm pretty sure there will not be problems in filling some of the jets. I know that CHO is a busy place and gets jets from other carriers to other locations, such as ATL and CVG. I just wasn't sure it the filled up a 50 seater jet it would still make money on the 65 to 75 mile range.
