If you need to ask then it's probably not for you. Plus, I'm pretty sure you got to be on the boat for two years before you go to flight school.
Must agree with Slice121 here. If you're hesitant don't bother signing papers
and taking the oath. That commitment only gets longer if you're a free-
spirit who wants to drop in and out of jobs as your "passion" dwindles.
This holds true for any of the services.

Most of the CG pilots I've had the pleasure of knowing over a 22+ year
career have been what you term "gung-ho." That is, if you term "gung ho"
as committed regardless of mission.

HLS is the Military

I love the military but I'm unsure if it's for me.

Don't be fooled - The CG is a military organization. Depending on the unit, it can feel like Airsta Vacation or Fort Evergone. Pretty soon we'll all have guns in our helos, too. The only bonus is we're not in the desert for +1 years like our brothers in arms (special thanks to those who are, including my son!).

Join the CG if you want to serve. The ability to save someone's life in an avaition capacity is a true privilege, to do it when it's dark and scary is an experience.

Best of luck!

Well thanks guys. Im still going to think about it. Im not concerned that ill dwindle off. I know that when I commit to something I give it 100%. But in this case I was just concerned with the 10+ year commitment. I have a job right now flight instructing and i'm in a little rut and see no end. Im sure many of you have been there before, and when I get phone calls from friends of mine who are in the Airforce and are flying some cool hardware I felt a little behiend the power curve. Should I just take the ASVAB anyways?

The ASVAB is for enlisted candidates, so don't waste your time if you want to fly...AF has the AFOQT, Navy/USMC the Navy Marine Corps Battery, not sure about the CG and Army.
