Does anyone have any good tips or theories to help to keep a long sleeved white pilot's dress shirt from getting badly wrinkled inside luggage?

Is it the type of luggage, or how you fold the shirt?

make sure your luggage is packed tight, so the shirt doesn't come unfolded.

you are folding it, aren't you? :)

If you fold it well, and its not shifting around, it should be fine.

Otherwise, get luggage with a garment bag.

The secret to wrinkle-free clothes is rolling.

Lay the shirt face down, fold it in thirds (left arm to center, right arm to center) and then roll it, beginning at the tail of the shirt. Rolling works great for pants, too.

I think I saw this on a segment of the Today Show or something similar, didn't believe it until I tried it.

I roll all my clothes for compactness, and to preserve them in transit. Ties, especially. Trousers can be kept surprisingly well pressed if ironed, and then rolled.

An iron in the motel room takes care of any wrinkles, anyway. If no spray bottle is available, and the iron is supect (anybody get grease, grit, dirt, or rust out of the water inside a hotel iron? I've had a few ruined that way), wet a clean wash cloth and dab the shirt or clothing item, or draw the damp cloth over the shirt.

Hang up the shirt in the bathroom when taking a shower, or just turn on the shower and let it steam; this takes out a lot of the wrinkles.

Dampening a towel to place under the shirt while it's ironed will also help remove wrinkles and produce a nice ironing job.

Rolling is good, but here's the all-time secret weapon of the pros: hold on to those plastic sleeves that your dry-cleaning comes back in, put ironed shirt in it and you're all set! Never fails, no wrinkles. You don't even have to fold it particularly nice either. Which is good since I'm lazy. If you don't dry-clean, then use a kitchen trashbag (unused, preferably), hole in the bottom, pull the hanger through, same result!

stop the rolling and garbage bag antics...
