Anyone have any experience with La Placa Flying Services or Sheble Riviera Aviation? I'm thinking about heading to either of those places to get my ASES rating. Any input would be appreciated. If anyone has any other recommendations of where to get a seaplane rating within 500 miles (driving) of PHX, let me know!

Sheble's will have you out the door in no time. They're all business. They have a good bunch of instructors there too. I'm not sure, but I think Joe Sheble himself does the instruction for the Seaplane rating. The ASES is supposed to be a lot of fun too. I don't know much about the other place you mentioned.

Unchilled.

it looks like Sheble's is the place if you want a single eng. check out their site. Looks like fun I was planning on doing mine this winter but then Chris Beebe had other plans for my money and Capt slot so I don't think its a go on FO pay.

Sheble's and LaPlaca

Joe LaPlaca has been around for years in Lake Havasu City. I understand that he runs a good operation and is a good guy. He has been a DE for many years.

If this is any indication, I got my ATP at Sheble's in 1989 when he was still in Blythe, California. You do get in and out quickly, but you do have prepare extensively ahead of time. I had a friend who went there for his multi and he gave me all the gouge. I doubt that you'll get a flying fest for your seaplane rating; I got a total of something like two hours airplane time and maybe one hour of sim time for my ATP. My friend may have gotten three hours of airplane time for his multi. In addition, Sheble's is not your father's flight school. In Blythe it was in this old decrepit hangar with cats running in and out. Leave your necktie at home.

Good luck with your training.
