Scenic Airlines

I put an application in online about 3 weeks ago, but haven't heard anything yet. Just wondering if anyone else has gotten a phone call, and what kind of flight time they had. I've got 1400tt/130 multi, so I exceed their minimums. Anyone else got any info?

If you just did the online thing I'd also suggest mailing and faxing your stuff too. You need to get the CP or who ever does the interview selections attention but be careful not to bother or piss them off. Kind of a fine line.

Are you in the Vegas area? If so maybe drop in and show your face. Again mind the fine line. You never knowin this bizz. I got my second 135 PIC job by "dropping in".

Also when it rains it pours in this bizz. Maybe thier fully staffed now but I'd bet my salary in a short time guys will move on and they'll need new guys overnight.

I worked the canyon scene for over a year and it is either feast or famine out there. The best time of year for a job is around May and the worst is around September. Like LearLove says they may have too many guys now but tomorrow may be a different story. If you live there and they know who you are you have a much better chance. I flight instructed at VGT for about 4 months and got a call one day to come and work because a guy had quit and they needed someone to start training immediatley. If they hadn't known me or had I not lived there, the job would have went to someone else.

Don't forget to check out Vision which is right across the airport from Scenic. They fly Chieftains and Dornier 228's. Also check out King Airelines in Henderson and Lake Mead Air out in Boulder. Lake Mead is only a Single-Engine Cessna operator and King will start you out in a 207 then you can move up to a 402 later. Both places will get you SFAR qualified and into the canyon loop. Lots of guys go from those companies over to Scenic, Vision, or some to Air Vegas. Air Vegas is strictly PFT though. I've been in the regional world now for about 4 years and I wish I could go back to the old canyon. That was the funnest year of flying I've ever done. All the canyon pilots are cool and the flying is awesome!!

Got my gob at Scenic back in 97 by droping in wiht four of my friends. Also had my old boss (instructing) call them up for me and ask if they needed any pilots.
Times have changed sence 97. But it was the best 3 years of my life!!

Lake Mead (along with Air Bridge) is out of business. Vision now flies the Dorniers and Jetstreams, but they are PFT like Air Vegas. Air Vegas is in bankruptcy and the rumor is that Vision is looking at acquiring them. Vision is also working on changing from 135 to 121.

Scenic is not PFT and is 121. It's the best option for those looking at canyon flying out of the Las Vegas area. King is a distant second flying C207s and C402s under 135. A lot of King pilots move on to Scenic.

Wow, changes out there it sounds like. I left about 4 years ago and I knew things at Vision were changing. That sucks they changed to PFT. Scenic always has been the better deal out there but if it fails, the others aren't too bad. Lake Mead being gone is a good thing. King is actually a fairly nice place. I would rather do that than flight instruct.

Not quite sure what a number is but it shouldn't be too hard to find out. It is spelled King Airelines and they are located on the field there in Henderson.

Your total time is probably too high to work for King if you have over 1000hrs. They like to see between 500 and 700 hours so they know you'll stick around. It doesn't hurt to try though.

I actually just called Vince at King Airlines and he point blank told me that I have too much flight time and am overqualified...1450tt/130multi.
I can't seem to move on from flight instructing - either too much or too little...go figure.
