does anyone have any experience with the Globalstar or Iridium satellite phones? If so, how is the coverage, connectivity, gotchas, etc.

These things seem to be getting cheaper by the minute and now that that are tri-mode (digital cellular, analog cellular and satellite), they are getting interesting.

Sick of being stuck in the Caribbean, canada or ALOT of places in the U.S. without cell coverage.

I have had a globalstar for over a year now. Works great. You won't get a sat signal indoors, you must have direct line of site of the sky. Some satellites went out of service and they had to readjust the orbits. That took several months (done now) and there were some bad spots here and there for awhile making coverage "fade" for short periods of time. I don't use it a lot but when you need it it's there. Great for international travel or calling from FL390.
