saran wrap engine covers

someone posted about md 80 engine covers (as seen in las vegas)

i saw a ups 747 that had clear plastic wrapped all around the engine inlets (during an overnight stop) - kinda like saran wrap

I believe the saran wrap is for engine start-up, (they start the night before and wrap the engine to prepare for this) I guess on the 47 when the saran wrap is ingested into the engine during start up it prevents fod and other junk from being taken in..- Acts kinda like a lubricant and seal all in one, I hear this is quite popular in some countries.

- do make sure u wer ear plugs since I hear it is quite loud when the paper and metal portion is sucked through the engine (s)

ups is kind of a leading edge company (coming out with new nav equipt., etc) - maybe theyr'e on to something with engine covers
