I'm heading down to Santiago in a couple days for a 3 day L/O. Never been down there; any ideas where to go, things to see. I'm not sure where we're staying.

Head out to the coast for one day for sure - Vina del Mar / Valpairaiso. There should be some nice trim there this time of year. You can take a comfortable coach bus there from the grand central station downtown.

Tour the Santiago downtown area, including the government palace, then head toward Las Condes, the ritzy area. Along the way, you can ascend the Cerro San Cristobal. There's a revolving restaurant we always used to go to near here - don't remember the name, but it had good views of the city.

If you have a car, you can easily drive up into the Andes on a day trip for some beautiful scenery.

Wine country is a couple hour drive south of Santiago, if you're into that.

Be sure to drink a mote con huesillos, try the empanadas and sopapillas.
