I just got back from there, having stayed in the Comfort Inn in Condado. It was $117/nite with the AAA rate. That was about the best value I could find after an extensive search of Old San Juan and Condado. I did not search very hard in Isla Verde or Ocean Park, but that's where I will stay the next time I go. Condado reminded me a lot of Key West in more ways than one, but the Comfort Inn was well-located and newly renovated. It's certainly not the best hotel in town, but it has to be one of the best values, especially if you're not going to be in the room a whole lot.

If you plan on going out, try Dunbar's in Ocean Park (my personal favorite...mostly locals and great food), Lupi's in Isla Verde (mostly tourists), and the Parrot Club (mixed crowd) and Amadeus (mostly locals) in Old San Juan.

I just did a quick search in the Ocean Park area and found a couple of links...

if you're really hurting for a place, there's a guset house on the east side of tanca street in old san juan. it's half a block south of a little plaza that has a church on one side.

this is a cheap place on vieques, and the owners MIGHT be able to tell you a place in san juan; casadeamistad.com

also, green isle inn, in isla verde

food recommendation

Hello,
This is nothing about housing but when you are there you MUST splurge and visit the parrot club. It was mentioned in a previous post and I have to say it was one of the most memorable meals I have ever had. I had the tuna in a dark rum sauce, with garlic mashed potatoes.

prwow.com might have info

i heard you can get 40 percent off hotels by using;priceline.com, or hotwire.com(?)
