I'm not saying this is the best or only way to put it, but I hope ALL of you will write your local reps and fight this cabatoge provision. Here's a copy of the letter I sent:
I have grave concerns about the cargo cabotage provisions allowed by the amendment inserted into the FAA Reauthorization Bill.
I am an Air Force combat veteran, a member of the Florida Air National Guard, and I appreciate all the hard work you do for both our state and the nation. I am asking you to remove the cabatoge provision inserted by Sen. Ted Stevens, R-AK, into the FAA reauthorization bill. This potential pitfall concerns me for two reasons.
First and foremost, it threatens our national security as we expose our American skies to potentially less stringently regulated foreign pilots and aircraft. It is unrealistic to assume there is any way to completely regulate or screen pilots from other countries, and the idea of more
pilots from other parts of the world greatly increases risk to our
national security in another 9/11 type tragedy. Do we really want our nation's air commerce flown by the lowest bidder? I'm sure there are likely pilots from Bangladesh or other third world nations who would fly across our nation at 2 a.m. for less than an American pilot, but is that really going to let Americans sleep better at night wondering who is flying over their cities, homes, and churches?
Second,-it threatens the long long term job security of many American pilots by allowing foreign pilots to fly cargo routes previously unopened to them. I cannot see any advantage for our nation by allowing foreign crews and aircraft to traverse any part of our country competing for jobs in an industry already decimated by the 9/11 fallout. This will put more
Americans out of work, reduce our tax base, and undermine the enviable safe and reliable history record of the American air cargo industry.
There are many excellent facets to the FAA Reauthorization Bill that I fully support. However, this single amendment is truly a threat to both our national security and the livelihood of many of your staunchest supporters. Please help our nation by removing the amendment.

I went to the ALPA website and sent copies of these via Western Union to all my Senators and Reps....total cost....10 bucks.
You can email for free, call for the price of a call, or mail letter for the price of a stamp. I don't care how you do it...but please so something.
Think its just about cargo? You guys who hate SWA and JetBlue for "undermining" the profession...what do you think Indian Airways could fly a JFK-LA route on an airbus for? How do you feel about Saudi Air doing Dallas-Detroit? Yeah...its not here yet....but the "camel's nose is under the tent" if we let ANY cabotage start up...and we need to shut it down now. It won't happen without your help.
