That's a terrible approach there, NDB/DME with the last 5 nm requiring visual flight......thoughts to family and friends.
 
a buddy of mine was on the approach just in front of this guy in a cj. he said he incountered moderate mixed icing (about two thousand feet vertically) in the area of the final approach fix. the ntsb questioned him and said they were temporarily decommisioning the approach. this seemed sort of stupid to both of us considering the caravan crashed while on course 7 nm short of the runway. the icing in the area certainly seems the most likely cause as the 208 is known to not carry ice well. this was mentioned to my friend by the ntsb investigator as well.
 
sorry for the improper phrasology, perhaps i should have said FAA "shut down" the approach. in any case, this is all here say to me and what ever the powers that be did, seems like the usual over reaction when looking at the evidence.
