I've been browsing job posting lately and many say "please submit salary history" rather than specifying the pay level for a particular job. What exact is a salary history and where can I find an example of a properly formatted one?

I've been browsing job posting lately and many say "please submit salary history" rather than specifying the pay level for a particular job. What exact is a salary history and where can I find an example of a properly formatted one?

A salary history is merely implying what you are/were making in previous or current positions within this industry. It gives the future or potential employer an idea of where you are at and if they can offer you pay that is competitive to what you are or were making in this industry. I would leave out salary history that is not relevant to the job you are looking into unless it is specifically requested. Some places are more specific than others so just follow directions to what "exactly" they are requesting.

If you do a search of salary history or salary requirements on Google, you will find a lot of opinions on the subject. 9 out of 10 times I think it is an exclusionary strategy.

And it puts you at a disadvantage in an already low paying field.

It is a good indicator that they will sacrifice quality for money and that they are more money driven than people. It's somewhat like having a big blinking sign saying "THIS JOB SUCKS AND SO DO WE!"
