Here it comes, wouldn't want to be at 270 or 280. When up in the thirties and the turbulence is bad everyone screams for the upper 20's. What will it be like there now?

I'll be up around there all the time -- 290 whenever I can get it.

We mil pilots in the T-38 don't meet the criteria. Sucks when we *typically* like to cruise at 390, but now we can't legally plan for that altitude.

Cuts our range down quite a bit for those cross country training sorties, you know? No more Nellis AFB :( :( :(

I do believe that military aircraft will be able to fly in the rvsm altitudes. They are one of the few type of operations that are exempt

Actually, if you're not RVSM, you'll be stuck at 280 and below. RVSM is 290-410 inclusive.

I think the wording is that "Department of Defense" aircraft will be accommodated "on a workload permitting basis". Whether a T-38 falls into this category, I have no idea....

Yeah, they'll certainly try to help us out when they can, but we can't PLAN on the uncertain event happening. Consequence: we can't plan to a destination the *requires* us to cruise in the RVSM airspace to make it on our available fuel. All our fuel planning must be at altitudes that aren't in the RVSM airspace, which shortens our range.

The Air Force goes crazy on fuel planning, and this just makes it worse. Ha, oh well :)

Who knows what "workload permitting basis" means, anyway? Sounds a lot like "if the controller feels like it on that day." Oh well :) Shame on us for not having altitude hold. At .9IMN, it only takes about 1 degree of pitch change to get a 1000' VVI. We could sure use the autopilot, but I'd rather actually *fly* the jet :)

Fly safe!

Not like you'll be doing much hand flying in the next few years anyway, Lt. FAIP; your bones-and-goo "autopilots" in the front seat will be doing most of it! ;-)

I'll find out soon enough and let you know!! Have six legs overthenextfew days and I'm sure all will be above FL290! Just can't waitto see that traffic pass head on over me at 1000 ft at FL350!

You only have 6 legs in a few days? Must be nice!

It is all fun and games until that little dot on the TCAS becomes an RA. You do not have much time. You will be able to see each other drinking coffee as we pass each other.

Okay, so who will be the first to post a piccie of that, now there is a challenge!
