Well, it is great that all the jetblue people are happy that their new Embraers will be RVSM, but seeing as how RVSM for the domestic US is scheduled to go in less than a year and a half, it is kind of a no-brainer. Unless they want to keep those planes below FL290 or above FL410 (if they can go that high, I don't know). These Embraers being RVSM is no big deal at all, everyone flying between FL290 and FL410 (inclusive) will be RVSM come January 2005.

I knew that, but the equipment will come RVSM ready, for lack of a better term. That was my point. Granted, I don't think retro-fitting an aircraft is that big of a deal, but it does require the associated costs, downtime, labor, and the ever popular paperwork. My point was that having these new aircraft RVSM compliant out of the box was a good thing.

At what point did I say anybody was ignorant? All I was saying is that this is somewhat akin to McDonalds telling saying they are introducing a new sandwich with a meat (well meat by-product anyway) patty that will be cooked. It has to be done anyway, it is not like anything special is being done to it.

The general public neither knows nor cares what RVSM is, and airline people know that come January '05 the domestic US will be RVSM.

We aren't planning to place an ad in our brochures that we are RVSM equipped, Goober. This is an avaition forum in case you haven't noticed. I thought we were communicating with pilots?

And maybe it will matter when we fly our E190's to Puerto Rico, Bermuda, and points south. Ahhhh, and you thought the "region" was presumably domestic.

First of all (if we are going in reverse order, that is), why resort to name calling? Why do some of you take everything so personally? You think that someone saying ANYTHING about JetBlue is an attack on you personally. And there was no attack, just a question as to why it seemed to you to be such a big deal. The airline I work for is already RVSM, and MNPS and ETOPS for that matter. I don't (until now) go around talking about it.

And second, perhaps I did presume the "region" to be domestic US. But even if it weren't, the caribbean and South America will be RVSM also, it is planned for 2004, so again, sort of like a home builder saying that all new homes will come with a smoke detector. So unless the "region" will be Africa, Antarctica, or Far Eastern Russia the planes will have to be RVSM.

Third, if Embraer wants to sell the E-190 to any other airlines, domestic US or Europe or wherever, then they will have to be RVSM. Ahhhh, and you probably presumed the E-190 to only be going to JetBlue.

Now, Now. Don't be all defensive. I think you missed the point, but you did a darn fine job of making your own.

We were just making the point that the 190 is constantly being called an RJ, and being RVSM Capable makes it different (no RJ's that I know of are so equipped, and don't have much range for that matter). You seemed to have taken some offense to our pointing that out.

Now if you want to start comparing MNPS and ETOPS and all that, go ahead, make my day.... Got any other neat acronymns that you never talk about?

By the way, what suffix code are you? I bet ours is farther down the alphabet than yours is (just kidding, in case you are planning on getting all pissy).
