Just a quick question for the board. What would it costs to bring a Citation ISP into compliance with RVSM, and what are the approximate costs? Lastly, what are some good, and honest shops to do the installation?

Really depends on the A/P that is in it. Most of the 501's have the Sperry 500 a/p. Cessna told me approx. $125K. However Shadin supposedly has a plug and play box for around $75K plus installation. I'd check with a Cessna service center and Weststar in Grand Junction as a start.
CHECK WITH EAGLE AVIATION IN SOUTH CAROLINA (KCAE)
I BELEIVE THEY WERE ADVERTISING $79,000 WITH LESS THAN ONE WEEK DOWNTIME.
ANOTHER QUESTION: WE JUST BOUGHT AN AIRCRAFT THAT'S ALREADY RVSM. IT WILL BE CANCELLED WITH THEIR FSDO AND I NEED A LOA FROM OUR FSDO. WE HAVE SCHEDULED THE PILOT AND MECHANIC TRAINING. ANYONE KNOW HOW MUCH TROUBLE THIS WILL BE?
Someone said that the serial # was important as well--perhaps this realtes to the autopilot installed. What the he.ll is going to happen to all of these older Citations and Lears when RVSM becomes reality? The FAA will have succeded in killing a good portion of aviataion....
I know a lot of Citation operators have used Premier Air Center in Alton, IL (ALN) for RVSM, TCAS, and TAWS compliance. Yes, a good portion of the fleet will be subject to dismissal after next January, but this is probably a necessary evil. Change or die I suppose.
If you were asking about RVSM on a Citation I /SP the serial # is not important. The 501 was not introduced until 1977. The important serial # was when Cessna changed from the RCA to the Sperry Collians system. This was in 1975. Some people get a single pilot STC on the older C-500 and call it a I/SP, but a real I/SP is a model 501.
Cost for RVSM in a Citation 501 will run around 125,000 +1700.00 for the GMU flight + 2500 for the manuals. These are cost I got from Cessna. The Unit number is important, Unit numbers prior to 275 can't be RVSM at this time. The rumor is after the first of the year there will be a price jump by Honeywell for the kits I have heard 25-40%. Having just gone through RVSM I would recommend you use Cessna or authorized facility like Priemer Air Center. I use them both and they will stand behind their work. As for the Shadin I believe it isn't certified for Citations yet. There is some pitfalls with using a Shadin system. You didn't mention if you are having TAWS done at the same time? If you need any phone numbers email me.
