RVSM and Minimum Equipment Lists

If your aircraft is RVSM approved, is it correct that you don't have to have an MEL?

That's the first I hear of it, our airplane is RVSM approved and has both an MEL and a CDL.

RVSM and MEL's are two different subjects. If you want good info on MEL's...a pilot's primer on the subject...get AC 61-97A from www.faa.gov

I just found this on the FAA website:

FAQ: Minimum Equipment Lists. Is it a requirement to have a MEL before being issued RVSM authorization?

Answer:
Operators are not required to adopt an MEL. If the operator chooses, however, to adopt an MEL, then the MEL must be developed using the Global Change 59.
