while the conservative curmudgeon and Clinton heckler, Rush Limbaugh was drying out in de-tox, comedian and liberal satirist Al Franken, who Rush once referred to as a "buck tooth idiot," was entertaining our troops in Baghdad and Tikrit for the USO like Bob Hope used to do. It was his 4th USO tour in the last five years.

I know more about Howard than you might think. I was there at infinity for the distribution of Howard in the 80's to the rest of the nation. I remember the discussions of the target demographic. We called it 18-35, but the real draw was his dirty mouth, the draw of bathroom humor, usually the province of the young teen boy.

The company decided to put a lot of money into lawsuit defense, and it paid off as society became coarsened over the past twenty years.

The idea of Howard as a "conservative" is an intersting one. A fiscal conservative? Perhaps. That's the word that Arlen Specter uses to describe himself. In truth, Arlen is no more conservative than I was as a liberal. In fact, I'd say that Arlen is the most liberal republican in the senate. All of the republicans named above are those who exist in the liberal vacuum of North Jersey and New York. Conservatives? I don't think so. At least, not from what I know.

Actually TB, my comment was directed at Mr. I, who I thought disagreed with me. Apparently he doesn't based on his last post. And since I agree with you, it looks like we're all on the same page! I would put Howard Stern in the Libertarian category. They can be summed up as laissez-faire thinkers. In fiscal terms that generally means conservative, and in social terms it generally means liberal. I would never pin Stern as a Republican, though he might vote that way. These are of course just personal opinions. I've never met the guy.

Time, we might agree on one premise I've always had.....the northern republican is a southern democrat. If a politician who was fiscally conservative and socially liberal ran for Pres, I don't think he/she would ever lose. The closer to the center, the better chance to win. Well they, the liberals, that is, are trying to put together a liberal radio network.

Of course, they aren't going to call it that. No one would listen.

Regardless of what they end up calling it (the network for working families? The American Agenda? Oops. ABC already has that one nailed down as as segment title) they will need some hollywood type to host it, someone who isn't a politician, per se. Will it be a junkyard dog, a la Jim Carville? Will it be Alec Balwdwin? Who knows.

It will be interesting to find out how long it lasts, and how few will listen. That will be a risky move for the dems, since low ratings agianst Rush would be very bad publicity for their candidates.
