So I was flying a Cessna 182 around yesterday and went into a sloped one way airport in the mountains here in CO... the topic of discussion went to where the line should be drawn in reference to picking a runway for wind vs slope. ie: Takeoff downhill with a tailwind or uphill with a headwind. Opposite for landing...

Anyone out there have any ideas on this? The 182 POH doesn't have a correction factor for slope, just wind... I'm looking for something general, a rule of thumb, that would work for most airplanes.

Better yet, express why your opinion is so using a physics argument. After the abortion that is the "airplane on a treadmill" thread, this should be fun!

Runway slope

On an approximate 7% slope, we normally take off downhill with a 10 knot wind or less and uphill if greater than 10 knots.

I'd rather go downhill with a headwind, than uphill with a tailwind.

Hope this helps.
