Looking for recommendations on rolling flight cases. I need to trade in my old war torn case and I fiqure that since I fly naps / stand-ups, that this would help in dragging it across the airport. For those that have one, what are your likes and dislikes. Also, how is the fit in the case compartment with the handle.
Thx:cool:

The only pilots I've seen using rolling cases are chicks and guys 6 months from retirement. Which one are you? ;)

Just a joke!

It's good for a day tripper. :D

We at Colgan probably have the highest percentage of rolling flight cases per capita, having seen many such cases, I'd recommend one of those Samsonite ones, a few of the guys have them, not sure where you can get them but they look very nice and durable. The cheap leather ones from Staples seem to fall apart easily as do the cordura ones from OfficeMax. I've seen some very cool ones that open up like a regular flight case but have the handle places lengthwise so that they roll like a regular rollerboard, eliminating the wimp effect of rolling flight cases ...

I'm just kidding the original poster. I had thought about a rolling case a few months back when all my flights were split between C and D in ATL.

Now I'm the dork that brings his rollaboard on naps!

Maybe if ASA lightened up on all the garbage we have to carry they could put the second coffee pot back in.

OTOH, carrying the case like a man means 5 or 10 bicep curls that you don't have to do later at the gym. Can you believe that pilots actually carried their bags for the first 65 years of commercial aviation? Amazing. . .

And to CommutAir, Colgan, and other pilots going into the 1900, please don't buy one of these rolling cases, or you will get grief for it. The closet won't hold two of them side by side, meaning somebody's is going to be on its side on the floor of the closet.

And it won't be mine. :D

Hey CA, have you made it to the Loser List yet?

I have to imagine that you're getting up there on the seniority list, right behind Mr. Personality out in CLE.

I was under the impression that pilots are lazy (I include myself in that group,) and rolling cases fits that bill. Or it could be all those memories of toting arround a Baritone Sax during the high school days, I haven't quite decided.

I have a free, almost new rolling case that someone can have if you live in SoCal and are willing to pick it up.

Yeah, but the need to look cool, if only to fellow workers because nobody else cares, outweighs laziness in this situation.

Touche, however if someone offered one to me for free I'de use it. I guess that would get into the other stereo type of pilots though. Cheap/Broke.

Yeah, he's definately on there. Heck I'm a few years behind him and I'm on the loser list now.

Uh oh. If you're a few years behind him then I might have been there at the same time you were. Hopefully you won't figure out who I am. I was a bit of a little biatch when I was there but I'm better now, I swear!

Believe me, the work-out that I have gotten these past few months have been great but grows old very quickly. I have rotated bringing my rollerboard to give my arm a day off and yes doing this does make you look like a dork. The other solution of wipping out those shiny tote things with the straps to carry your case looks even worse.
For you CRJ drivers, would the staples case fit in the case compartment? I believe they are the same size from the ERJ to the CRJ but I am not sure.

Thx:cool:

:D

Happened right about the time of our furlough. (For those not in the know, CommutAir was good enough to "Pre-furlough" us a month before 9/11. Forward thinkers, those folks...) Anyone who wasn't on the "loser list" had been demoted to FO. It was a two-column list at that point!

I have to imagine that you're getting up there on the seniority list...

Yep. Kill me now. :D

... right behind Mr. Personality out in CLE.

Beats being right in front of him...hehehehe....

Absolutely NO chart case with wheels will fit in the CRJ compartments.

Secondly, NO self respecting professional pilot should be wheeling around his chart case...you are a wimp, take your rollaboard if it's so hard.

Even the passengers are like, "what the heck! He's wheeling his flight case!"

wheeled bags dont work in the CRJ, and your captain will make fun of you for it. just go get a Sportys Pilot Shop bag with a "CREW" tag on it, that would work, or a backpack! cause like were still in 10th grade and oh my gawd i have to carry my history book to ABY or CSG tonight! image doesnt matter right? nothin screams atl nap crew like a pilot with no hat, a backpack or a sportys bag!

Bitememesa, take a pill and relax. You seem to have some anger managment issues to deal with.

First - The rolling cases will fit, I have seen CRJ crews with them. The only thing that I need to confirm is the size. Std bag is about 8" with the wheels it inc to about 9-1/2"

Second - Trying to rationalize with and irrational person is useless, so I won't waste my time.

Your post makes no sense

I too have seen CRJ crews w/rolling flight kits and have flown with someone with one. They don't fit in the compartment in the CRJ. The guy I flew with just kind of jammed on top of the opening... Anything more than about 8.25-8.5" wide won't fit in that opening.

Hope that helps.

You are correct about no hats and backpacks but I haven't seen too many sporty's bags in my travels on the dark side. Funny thing is, most of the people I've seen with backpacks have had 4 stripes. Guess it takes a few more years to really develop the "I don't give a F**k, I'll do what I want" mentality, although the company seems to be doing a great job accelerating the process.
