Didn't know if anyones even heard of it, the EAA Rocky Mountain Regional Flyin/Airshow at Vance Brand Municipal Airport (2v2) in Longmont Colorado this weekend. I know they are expecting 300-500 ac and this will be the last show at Longmont as they ran out of room and are looking at moving it to Jeffco or FNL next year. I like going to the show because its a small airport and its in the town i spent 80% of my life in. Really good atmosphere, car displays, some new planes, some aerobatics. Really scenic airport to fly into to being so close to the mountains. If anyone is flying in, there was some confusion over the last few weeks/months over how the temporary tower will be set up. Please go to http://www.rmrfi.org/2003RMRFITowerProcedures.htm . Tower arrival frequency will be 120.525, New AWOS is on 120.000. Personally, i think that patterns gonna create a bigger mess than its worth. Anyone else think so (I cant make a real call here because I'm used to flying outta erie municipal)? Also anyone else hear about Allegiant running an MD83 into FNL 4x daily starting in late July?

Why do you think that the temp. pattern will be trouble?

Md-83 in FNL? That sure would be exciting for the oldtimers there...
Sorry to miss the fun... wish i was home for it.

Ground traffic problems

This show had lots of really unhappy ground customers last year. The big disadvantage of holding the airshow at a small airport is: one way in one way out. There were folks that spent 3 hours trying to get to the show to give away their money last year. Many finally gave up and gave away their money somewhere else. It will take a couple of years to remove that bad experience from the customer's mind.

Hope that they solved these issues or attendence will not be that great.

I'll agree with ya there RocktMtn, 2v2's traffic is horrible even on a reg. day. After I had about 20 hrs me and my cfi decided to try the pattern on a sat morning wnd they we're 6 ac in pattern and it was a huge mess, enough to get my adlrenaline going. Part of the problem with getting out may be that 2 hr closure window they have for the aerobatics. I'd never fly into the show. I just park or ride my motorcycle in and sometimes i can get in for free since i know a guy that has an ac there.
