ASA got 25 of the CRJ 200's in the RFP. 13 went to CHQ and Skywest, respectively. Deliveries to begin in 2005, all CRJ200's.

Skywest got 7, not 13.

25-ASA
13-CHQ
7-SKYW

Wonder what size these are?

General Lee......

Analysis please! What is the official word coming down from DALPA.

Even with no contract extensions. Wow. I can't believe it.

Don't worry, with no new contract in sight for ASA. I'm sure the 25 new jets will be transferred to Comair when we go on strike.

Great to hear, but 2005 is a loooooong way away. I'm not gonna get my hopes up, or at least I'll try not to get my hopes up.

I can't remember the staffing requirements for each plane. How many pilots would this mean?

Comair

I am sorry to see Comair and ASA weren't the only airlines to get the a/c. I don't think there is one reason to say why Comair didn't get any. Heres a link to the AJC article on this from today.

Who's to say they can't change their minds 100 times between now and '05. Maybe they will try and use this against ASA when it comes time to negotiate pay rates etc

Anywho.......

Staffing

I believe ASA staffs their a/c at 5 crews per, so 125 positions for Capt. and FO. Don't quote me on this though.

We made our bed at CMR by refusing any concessions and if this is the way it played out, so be it. I can live with that. I also know where CHT and SKW stand. They lowballed to get more growth. I'm O.K. with that too. It's the ASA part that confuses me. Why would DAL give them more growth during negotiations when they don't know what the final labor cost structure will be? Or do they already know? Inquiring minds want to know. I hope the ASA leadership didn't sell out for this in some kind of backroom deal. I'm not saying they did, but DAL's decision to give them the bulk of this RFP is interesting.

Yeah, you could see the contractor aircraft as a given but the the ASA a part, well never say never in this bizz.

March 2 NEW YORK story headlined "Delta Connection carriers to add 45 aircraft," please correct second sentence of second paragraph to read " ... 63 regional jets at SkyWest ... instead of " ... 54 ... " and " ... 47 regional jets at Chautauqua ..." instead of " ... 45 ... ." (Delta Connection corrects numbers).

and the the news keeps on coming...
nothing on ACA? I'm waiting Caveman;)

Maybe DAL made the ASA announcement in the hopes that they would get a nice contract out of them... They can always take them away just as fast and send them somewhere else...

The 5 per airplane is correct I believe. Remember though that you will upgrade 125 Captains for 25 airplanes, but have to hire 250 F/O's to fill the seats since you have 125 new seats plus the 125 that were vacated by the new Captains.

Good news for us, but bad news for CMR. Suck that they got left out. Their mgmt is bashing their union pretty hard right now, and I'm sure this has to do with that. No doubt though that unless something changes, DCI will use those airplanes and delivery positions to punish ASA pilots when we get to the rough part of our new contract.

any thoughts on where we're gonna park them things?

That's why I'm still trying to figure out. I still can't figure out where they're going to fly all these planes either. I can see a small number of RJ's being needed for the BOS and JFK expansions, but beyond that I just don't see it. Maybe they'll start running RJ shuttle service between DFW and SLC?

If the economy is coming back, won't DL need to upgrade some routes to mainline, thereby freeing up some RJ's in the process for other routes?

Overall, I think this order is bad news for DL. It shows that DL management doesn't really want to be a competitive player going forward. What happens when JB launches JFK-SAV with an EMB190? Which do you think the customer will choose...a cramped CRJ or a roomier EMB190 with TV? The trend going forward is larger planes...not smaller. Apparently, DL management didn't get that memo.

I wonder when the next mainline DL plane will be delivered? Currently DL says 06, but I wouldn't be surprised if those are deferred.

Good point Sabre! I hope guys don't get too overly excited about this announcement. Managment can and will your emotions to get pilots.....Especially during negotiations. I wouldn't put it past them to use this against the pilots when it is to their advantage.
Ciao

I don't think Comair will be left out at all.

A lot of folks think that CMR will get all of the ACA Do-Jets.

ACA's routes

Someone will have to take over all of ACA's routes. My guess is that Comair will pick up those vacanceis and ASA will pick up the routes that Comair had to drop. I really dont think that Comair will aquire the DO jets, more likely replace them with current RJ's. Comair is best suited to take over the Boston route structure since they are already situated up in that area with MX bases, etc. We are also expanding out west and can see more routes into So. Cal and south west areas. Maybe another hub?:p
