Hi,
Is a restricted radio operator permit still required for operations in Canada? If so, what is the easiest way to get one? Also, are you required to have a radio station license for your aircraft when you are operating in Canada and how do I obtain that? I have also been hearing that a passport may be required to enter Canada after the first of the year. Is there any truth to that?
Thanks in advance

Definitely get a passport. You will be required to have one soon, and even though you can get away with a driver's liscense or a birth cert with Canada it just makes things easier to have a passport.

The restricted radiotelephone liscense is stupidly easy to get. Hit up fcc.gov and you should be able to find the form easily enough, just fill it out and mail them the fee (50 bucks if I remember correctly) and they'll mail you the liscense. It has no expiration on it, no training involved to get it, just fill out the form and it's yours.

As for the radio station liscense for the airplane, you'll need one if you plan to go international. Call up the local FSDO and they'll point you in the right direction.

Check your insurance as well to make sure you are covered in Canada as well (should be, but I would double check).

Get the radio station license for your aircraft on the FCC site as well. I believe that it's $100 and is good 7 years (or so).

Yep, except it's up to $60 bucks now and you can do it all online. They'll mail it to you in about 3 days.
