Management at US Airways has launched an evaluation of elimination its fleet of 25 Embraer E-190s through direct sales or subleases.
Today during an earnings call with analysts and investors carrier President Scott Kirby said the fleet represents roughly 2.5% of total consolidated capacity at US Airways, and cutting the fleet would give the carrier additional flexibility to reduce its available seat miles.
Kirby also explains the E-Jet represent a small sub-fleet whose elimination could also create operational gains for the carrier. The aircraft are also in demand globally, so US Airways believes getting rid of the E-Jets is something the carrier "can effectively implement from a financial perspective", says Kirby.
US Airways owns the 25 aircraft, and company chief executive Doug Parker stresses the potential cutting of E-Jets from its fleet is not to raise liquidity, but to enhance long-term profitability.
In August 2005 US Airways issued a request for proposal to regional partners Air Wisconsin, Mesa Air Group and Republic Airways Holdings to operate up to 25 E-190s once it merged with America West.
But after mainline pilot protests a transition deal was ratified by America West and US Airways pilots to limit E-190 flying to mainline operations.
 
It's about time someone's scope prevented something. It would be nice if a certain Atlanta based airline would limit their scope before I end up flying a CRJ3000 with 300 seats and two dozen plugs, flung through the air with two underpowered engines.................

That's pretty funny.
 
Republic can't at this point; they (and Mesa) are already flying more "large rj's" than was allowed under the transition agreement for US Airways. There is a pending grievance about that issue now.
 
I agree...not for Airways, but as Midwest.

Pursuant to Order 2007-11-27, Republic Airline Inc. hereby notifies the Department of its intention to operate more than 75 large aircraft, and requests that the Department eliminate the notification requirement in its entirety regarding the number of aircraft that Republic is authorized to operate.
With its current fleet of 70 regional jet aircraft (Embraer 170s and Embraer 175s), Republic operates scheduled interstate service pursuant to fee-for-service agreements with certain major carriers.
Republic needs to increase the number of aircraft above 75 to meet its near-term operational commitments. Its expansion plans include the addition of Embraer 190 aircraft. Republic expects that it will exceed 75 aircraft on or about 01-Oct-2009.
 
That makes sense republic buying the 190s for Midwest. Republic is using the midatlantic 170s they bought from us airways for Midwest right now

Unfortunately I can easily see your Airbus's mixed up in this as well if you connect the dots. Everyone could be getting what they want.

He just got done saying they weren't going to reduce capacity about a week or two ago. They have a few aircraft coming, but not enough to fill the hole 25 airplanes would leave.

I hope it isn't true, but I could see a few 318's/319's getting replaced with Republic Frontier Connect E-190's once the purchase is finalized.

25 190's added to the 170's already at Midwest does not make sense.

They have this figured out already...they are just setting the stage and waiting for all the pieces to fall into place.
 
The thread should read; Parker selling aircraft to raise capital.

Dont be fooled, they've pawned everything they have, the global markets for EJets is strong.

Old Dougy is trying to figure out how to pay the electric bill. I dont buy the ASM rhetoric. Burn the furniture to stoke the stoves.

Totally plausible. Don't even need a tinfoil hat. Bedford and Parker love deals, and this is right up their alley.
 
Just a couple far flung ideas. BB wants Frontier to operate mostly 190's. So he trades Airways 190's for some of the Airbuses that are to be Republics shortly. This makes Dougy happy as he gets more seats for less planes driving down his costs, and it makes BB happy as he will get to screw the Frontier Airbus drivers and put more cheap labor in his Frontier operation.
Another idea is that Midwest did initially have 25 B717's. RAH's Midwest operation gets replaced completely with 190's and the rag tag of 145's, 170's, and 190's is not an issue any more. This would make a lot of sense due to the business model of Midwest giving great service to their customers. No business man paying $700 for a ticket wants to get on a EMB-135 from MKE-LGA. Now all RAH has to do is actually hire somewhat descent FA's and pay them as such.
This will also free up 145's and 170's to operate for the rest of the code share operations and keep the $$$ source flowing.
Just another possibility
