Are there any Republic people out there who commute from the west coast (California or Nevada)? How feasible or worthwhile is the commute to work?

I'm ready to get the hell out of Colgan now but I'm gonna wait out my training contract.

I'm hoping to get on with Republic, but if not with them then SKW

I'd appreciate any info regarding work rules if you happen to know any.
Min days off, Holiday pay, DHD pay, Reserve pay, et cetera

We do have people that commute from the West coast. Not many but a few.
There are also people that commute from Vail and SLC. Most of the West coast guys have moved to their respective bases or somewhere they want to live.

Min days off- 11 RSV 12 Line Holder. Avg days off 15. Senior guys 17-19
Holiday Pay- Yes 4 hours added to your credit time for the day. (including over block time)
DH Pay- 75%
Reserve Pay- 4 hours a day of pay or the greater block time. Average RSV time is about 3-4 months as long as you are willing to switch bases to hold a line.

Is overblock based on individual leg block or for the total day's pairing.

Each leg. For example. We ferried an ariplane last week. DEN-IAH. After the snow and deice in Denver.. we flew to IAH and had to hold for 50 mins.
PLanned block time was 2:35. We blocked in at 4:20.
So.. You get paid for 4:20.

Commuter Clause in the contract at Republic? How is commuting dealt with at Skywest. A commuter clause is a must!

Being familiar with both contracts, I'll have to say SkyWest has a better contract with the exception of first year pay for Fo's.

But Rep/Chq/S5 goes into contract negotiations in april and will have a new contract by end of the year. We should see improvements on our contract across the board.

I think both companies are a good choice as far as regionals. But it really comes down to who picks you up first and what base. got a lot of ex-colgan pilots at both companies and they will probably say good things about their own. but dont expect too much... its still a regional.

i chose chq over skywest b/c they offered a class first. and base at home.

Yes The Whole Republic Airways Holidings Family, "Chaututtlepublic", Republic, Shuttle America, and Chautauqua has a commuter clause. Can be used twice a year, I believe once every six months. You must be listed on your primary flight and have a back-up flight that you are also listed on.

Yeah. I've tried to use it twice now and they end up just Positve Spacing me. Shows you how short we are on Pilots.

of topic, but does RAH require current 121 pilots to do the sim eval during the interview.. i seem to remember reading that it's just kinda depends on how they're feelin that day

Actually, the commuter clause can be used twice every six months.

What about Skywest, does their policies all them a commuter "clause?" If you don't have a commuter "Friendly" commuter policy it can be difficult to live with out worries and headaches. Good luck with any choice!

SKW doesn't have a formal policy, but they are pretty reasonable about it. The were going to implement one based on other airline's policies but the standard two flight policy would have been impossible for many senior pilots who live in small towns in the pacific northwest and rockies, so they just play it by ear.
