... why is it that you have to be 23 years old and have 500 hours of XC to get the 170 at RAH? Anyone know?

I hear it is because of the simulators. Or maybe insurance. Never-the-less it is just a mystery.

Like everything with an airline, the company posts what they want but will take lower if you are bringing something good to the table. For instance, I was short of the XC by 150 hours but was still offered a 170 class. I was bringing pervious 121 experiance, Mesaba RJ85, and Military FE time in an E-3(AWACS)

'cause if you don't have at least that, u shouldn't be sitt'n next to me...

because 22 year olds just aren't mature enough!

blott, whats up haven't seen your name in a long time. I left CHQ/SA over a year ago for Alaska.

Talk to ya later

Yo SF...

Need a better clue than that... ;) only one I can think of would be... damn, can't remember, but had a little flap problem once? (I hate generating memos)

Tall guy? that's the hint? lol Skull was a tall guy... I actualy talked to him a while back, while enroute... guess he has a legacy gig now... that's not why i'm laughin, but it is funny..."how tall are you.." lol... (inside joke ;) been a while since you heard about skull huh?

Blott, he was from that wonderful IN college up north, brown hair.....barely finished xition training to S5, I think, b4 he split with his old lady.... sat reserve on the beach in San diego...

because at 23 and 500 xo you will be convinced you are flying a real airliner and not an RJ....... you will puff out your puny little chest when you walk through the terminal ....... afterall you are flying a heavy now.... for 22.50 an hour
RAH has the ugliest FA's

A serious answer to the original post.........
When back in HQ a couple of months ago I discused this very topic with a MGMT type (title withheld). The answer is insurance. RAH insurance premiums were climbing (because of 170/175's). The company renegotiated a rate and thus had to raise the mins on 170/175 newhires to 1500/300.
If you don't have those hard mins, they can "borrow" time from you other experience (if you have other experience). For example, to obtain your ATP, the FAA can use up to 500 hrs of FE time toward the certificate mins of 1500.

I would pat you on the back, but I see that you beat me to it.

The insurance company was concerned about the I-pod getting lost in the young FOs backpack bacause it was under his hairgel and dye....this could affect his/her ability to properly program their FMS. Not sure how the XC time relates.

What about if you have ATP but you don’t have 300 ME, do you still can get interview. And can you get 170 or they are going to put you for 145 or CRJ ?
Anyone knows?

And the insurance companies were starting to notice that the cockpits were reaking of AXE body spray...seems their insurance carrier also reported that there was an overwhelming tendency of the FOs to ask their CAs if they knew anything about "tricking out a Civic", that had to stop...

This was also overheard on a flight and action had to be taken..."CA: What's the FAF? FO: Dunno. Are there any good places around our base to tan? That's really important to me."
