We will soon replace the deice boots on the wings and stabs of our Cessna 414. Any advice? Are there any shops near Northwest Arkansas that you'd recommend or steer clear of?

Thank you.

There are some talented people out there that have the patience and skill to do it right, but I'd recommend going to Goodrich in Akron, Oh. That's all they do and I believe it's still a one day turn around.

I've heard nothing but absolutely positive feedback about the Goodrich facility in Akron. I think that Tom Benenson (?), a Flying mag writer or editor took his P210 there and had his boots redone...I believe he wrote about it several issues back. At least I think he's with Flying and not AOPA pilot. Either way...he also had great things to say about them...and I think they have some sort of warantee (I know that's not how it's spelled...I think there's a U in there) or guarantee...not sure though.

About 15 years back I went to Akron. It was 1/2 day on a C-340. The cost (installed) was the same as ordering the boots. It's all they do and they are good at what they do. If we still used boots I wouldn't think of going anywhere but Akron.HEADWIND

we're taking our 414 to akron in the coming weeks.

I took a Cheyenne III to Akron a few years back and they did a great job. Those guys know what they're doing. In and out in less than a day.

About four years ago a friend of mine was flying an Astra that had its ratty old boots rejuvinated by some outfit that their chief pilot saw advertised in Trade-a-Plane. We were all pretty skeptical, but when they had finished the patches were gone and the boots looked and worked as good as new. It's been nearly 4 years now and according to my buddy they're still working. That might be an option for you.

A place at PWA can rejuvenate your boots. It's called Boots Edge. They do a good job. I have seen their work, and it's first rate.
