At my local aircraft rental place, it costs around 100 dollars an hour to rent a cessna... I'm just wondering how it could be possible for a casual pilot to rent an aircraft for a cross country trip for a week. seems kinda of pricey... What is the cheapest way to rent an aicraft for extended periods of time? without owning your own, or knowing someone who will lend you one.

Join a flying club, usually its cheaper than just renting from an FBO.

The one I like is, an FBO will have a 1972 172 for 55 an hour, or you can rent the new 172 for 105 an hour, mmmkay.

The good ole days are gone.

Well, the newer C172 usually have nice avionics, but I agree that it seems odd there is a $50+/hr difference in the prices.

Ditto what LR25 said... join a flying club. Great way to meet a lot of people and more wallet friendly rates. I've been part of one for three years now and love it.

I just know this is a stupid question, but they're not planning to charge you more that $100/hour based on the Hobbs and perhaps a daily minimum, are they? Daily minimums can be negotiable.

Not saying it's cheap (it's not) but how much are we talking about here?
