Just curious to see what people thought of the different ways to renew your CFI. From what I gather, the Jeppesen online course is good because they handle all the paperwork.

Americanflyers.net CFI Renewal is the best

You should definitely use the americanflyers.net online CFI renewal course. It's only $125.00 for life. It allows you to renew your CFI every two years without being charged each time.
Jeppesen and AOPA's CFI renewal courses require you to pay $100+ every time you use them.
American Flyers course also has an option for them to file your paperwork with the FAA for an additional $25. It's still cheaper than any other course out there.

It's a good course, very informative, but not very exciting. It's a lot of reading and you have to complete an allotted study time for each lesson before you can take the lesson test.

Much agreed for AmericanFlyers

I have been using AmericanFlyers.Net CFI renewal for the past 3 renewals. I got on board with the deal from the get go. When they first introduced the pay once for a lifetime, then it was $99 bucks, but even now at $125 what a deal.
Daytona is right. Not much excitement but plenty of information. Very easy. If all you want to do is renew, I highly suggest it. It normally takes me 3 day to do it at home between my normal trips that I fly and 3 kids.

My vote goes to Gleim. Super simple and fast. They'll even take care ofthe ground instructor as well if you complete the CFI renewal.

I used the Jepp CFI DVD course.....they actually give you all the answers to each quiz.

Took about 4 weeks to complete.

What if you let it expire? I had the I, II, MEI but let it go. What now? Do you have to retake each one or can you just redo one? ie..the MEI to have them reinstated?

4 weeks? Are you talking about a renewal or a full CFI groundschool?

Renewal....I was working 3 jobs and didn't watch the DVD's every single day.

Any method you choose is going to be eye-pokingly boring and about 95% will be a waste of time. The Jepp method (which I recently chose) was almost brain dead boring, but it was very simple to follow and they do take care of the paperwork. Anyway you look at it, it's going to be the lesser of two evils. The Jepp one, for a mandatory waste of time like any renewal will be, wasn't that bad.
