Scrapdog speaks the truth. I have done the American Flyers renewal for the past few times and it is painfull. It is easier than a ride with the Feds though. I convinced my employer to fund the "lifetime" fee and away I go. The kicker is when I recently went to the FSDO, an ex POI that I know did the paperwork said "why did you bother doing this, I would have just renewed if for you?"
Now you tell me......

What if you let it expire? I had the I, II, MEI but let it go. What now? Do you have to retake each one or can you just redo one? ie..the MEI to have them reinstated?

If it's expired your only option now is to call up the FSDO. They'll hook you up with either a DPE or one of their inspectors to give you a reinstatement checkride. One checkride will reinstate your CFI cert with all of the ratings.

"They'll even take care ofthe ground instructor as well if you complete the CFI renewal."

I'm confused, does the ground instructor cert expire now as well? I though once you had it, you had it for life, what am I missing?

Ok,
So let’s just say one of my friends is really lazy, doesn’t like to study at all, and would like to choose the e a s i e s t route to a CFI renewal. Should he pick Gleim, Jeppesen, or something else?

So which place do I, I mean should he, call? ;)
