Regional prospects for a DFW commuter

Hello all,

I am currently flying with a piston (twin Cessna 310/402) part 135 freight operator out of ADS (Addison) that has no turbine aircraft in their forseeable future. I'm sitting at about 3000tt/1000me with no turbine time and a desire to move on. I have some deep roots and a business in Dallas so relocating is not an option. I am wondering if their are options out there (other than Eagle) that would make DFW an easy place to commute from. I know that there are alot of regionals hiring right now and with any luck one or two places might offer me an interview. I am just wondering if there is anybody in this great big message board that is commuting out of Dallas, and if so, with what airline. Any advise would be appreciated (or flaming...I can always use a good laugh). Thanks in advance.

Seems like ExpressJet would be a pretty good option with the ability to commute from both DAL and DFW.

Hey you sexy beast,

I've been living in the DFW area for awhile now, and I haven't known what it's like to drive to work for several years ( too junior.) Anyway, you'll find that DFW is one of the easier cities to commute out of , thanks to the # of flights out of here. Course, the loads this summer are gonna be brutal.

One thing to consider, there are tons of ATL, CVG and SLC commuters now that ASA and DL have skipped town. Even so, I think you'll find that commuting out of here is not that big a deal.

Lifelong commuter to NY on good ol AA (sitting on the j/s most of the time!)

p.s. with your hours you should have NO problem getting on with just about any quality regional out there.

I'm with Comair and have been commuting to CVG for 4 yrs. The commute isn't bad except for Xmas and the summer. Delta has 4 flights and Eagle has 7 each way(we're not on CASS yet, but we get unlimited J/S w/Eagle). Comair is also training 50 a month and we're still short FOs and CAs.

I commuted out of DFW to DEN for about 4 years and while I never missed a commute, I didn't think the commute was necessarily easy on that city pair. DEN is a popular destination and given that after 9/11, I didn't have access to any cockpit jumpseats, just seats in the back, so that added to the aggravation. As a result, I had to choose wisely when it came to commuting. And like some other respondents have said, commuting can be particularly bad during the summer and at the big holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Also, if you are trying to commute to a popular spring-break destination, you can add in several more weeks of "difficult" commuting in the spring.

I very highly recommend not commuting if at all possible. Your QOL will be much better and you'll have more time at home for your business, family, friends, etc. And commuting while on a reserve schedule can entail the added expense of hotels and/or a crashpad at your domicile.

Several Trans States guys commute out of DFW to STL. That being said, even though there is like 10 flights a day or something. Lots of displaced TWA/AA guys make it a challenge. If it's not the loads in the back, the jumpseat usually is taken. Very challenging and a little stressful at time but haven't missed a commute yet!! (knocking on wood!!)

i think you have to ask yourself what your goals are... if you want to "build turbine time" and not move to the majors, eagle is not bad. get turbine time and leave. if you want to go to the majors, don't go to eagle as the upgrade is pretty far away from what i hear. if you want corporate or charter, look at cherry air or ameristar to get a lear/falcon type or time and leave...
