Hey I ran across some information from this flight school the other day. Does anyone have any insight on their professional pilot course? Right now I'm set on going to Panam but I thought I might as well see what anyone has to say about this place.

I talked to a guy on the phone and he said that currently grads. were interviewing with Colgan. Their CFI's were getting interviews at 700TT and one just got hired at 500 TT. The only thing that I'm not sure about is if these recent new hires are going the PFT route. (I've heard you can fork over 16k for a spot there.)

Any current, former students, CFI's have any comments about this place?

That makes it a very simple decision. Don't even bother.

All of the RAA guys that have been hired by Colgan in the past few months have been PFT. I heard the cost is closer to 18k than 16k now though.
 
To answer your questions....I'm currently attending RAA and love it. For one I checked into Panama and RAA is alot cheaper we have alot of guys from Panama,Comair,ERAU coming to our school. Well, we have 4 agreements with airlines right know. But not all are hiring. Because of the airline industry. As far as Colgan is concern yes it is 18,500 and you pay for the type rating as well in that and you are getting paid while in training. But you have to attend the airline transition course that is the agreement colgan and the school has at this time. I hope this kinda helps. Just make sure your happy where you go and have fun.
 
Low-time regional hiring

Even during good times, you need at least 1000 hours and 200-300 of multi minimum to meet commuter mins. More realistic times are probably 1500+, 500+ of multi, and an ATP. Moreover, perhaps with the exception of Comair, I doubt that many CFIs are being hired directly out of their schools by the regionals these days. There are just too many better-qualified pilots available. Therefore, suspect a catch if you hear of someone hiring at less than these mins. You should definitely assume a catch if some guy on the other end of a phone is bragging about how instructors at his school are getting hired at low time. Part of the flight school sales pitch is to brag that its grads are being hired in droves directly out of instructing by regional airlines. It always sounds so easy, when it is not.

Caveat emptor.

one of the schools that i go to , went around and tried to sell the same program for 24k what a joke,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,:confused:
