Racing

Back to racing... I ended up at the San Diego air race last year simply because that was were the jet was parked and i was seriously surprised. Action was front and center. Twenty bucks very well spent. An entire day went by very fast for someone with a very short attention span. Hats off to these guys, i wouldn't clear that course in a 172 let alone at 200+. Just kinda of left with a fear of this being one more black eye for aviation if anything were ever to go wrong, the action is very close to spectators. Guess no pain no gain though, no danger and it wouldn't bring in the jackasses hoped up on red bull (which i love by the way).

Which is why the majority of Red Bull's events are overseas. The federales here are too worried that someone is going to plow an Extra 300 into the crowd at 250 knots, or smack into a bridge/building/river/cliff while navigating the course.

Gives me the heebies watching those guys fly.

That's why it's in Detroit, nobody cares about the safety concerns. The City board members were probably doing back-flips when Red bull decided to come here. They probably said something like: "Sure, you can stage your event here!, go ahead do whatever you want." The City desperately needs something like this bad.

The beautiful thing about living in Ohio is there is now no way for the state to check for car for emissions standards. If someone stole my catalytic converter, I would just get some pipe, do a little welding, and forget that part. Then, you would be able to run 100LL if you really wanted to.

If taking the 172 up to the races, would YIP be a good airport to fly into? Is the USA Jet FBO worth using? It looks like they've got just about the best deal on gas up there.

We have self serve. I'm not sure how parking on the ramp works though. Would you like me to find out?

Hey TWA, I'm sure if you bring Way2 a fifth of Maker's, he'll fuel your plane for you and even wash and polish it.

Nah, don't worry about is broke, my hopes of going up to the race is looking a little bleaker than before. But if I ever do make it up that way, a fifth of could be arranged. Access to the military package store is a truly beautiful thing!

I am looking for 2 tickets to both days (qualifying and race day) in section 2 or 3. I need these ASAP. I took vacation to go to this thing and now it is looking like tickets are hard to come by. I didn't think a sell out would be a problem because it is general admission type stuff. Contact me here! I would put fuel in your plane but they don't let me near large quantities of gas anymore, ever since the last time......

TWA......
Sure you might have a access to the base liquor store, but I've got a 9mm and a ski mask. Unfortunately my uniform always gives me away and honestly nothing scares me more than going to jail in Detroit. This is why I am a big believer in having taxi cab companies programmed in the phone and using them.

Seriously though, if you have two extra tickets to both days please let me know. Thanks.

Well now all the tickets are sold out. Greatttttt. Anyone have 2 extras? Has anyone ever been to a race before? Can you scalp them day of? A friend went to San Diego last year, and said there were tons of tickets. I guess they didn't plan enough seats on the US side for this one.

Looks like I may be canceling some vacation days. Not that it matters, but it is illegal to sale tickets for greater than face value in Michigan. I hate to miss it, but I'm not paying that kind of money. There are some going for ridiculous amounts on Craigslist too. People are really willing to pay a premium to not go to Canada. (Where there are plenty of tickets available)
