Hey everyone,

1st time poster with a really dumb question. I'm too lazy to research this on the internet, but what's the FAR on recurrency on a turbojet? Specifically, I'm about to get typed in the CJ and wondered how long I can go before getting recurrent again. I understand there's an insurance requirement of usually once every six months to a year, but what's the FAR minimum? Do you have to get a BFR in type? The reason I'm asking is I had a guy tell me that he's never done a recurrent (after getting typed in the CJ...but he stays current in another turbojet) I'm still new to the civilian side, so please forgive my ignorance. And just to quell the critisisms, I wouldn't fly without staying (and feeling) current in type; I just wanted to know what the actual rule was.

Thanks

The actual rule is...if you get the 525S type, and only fly part 91, and don't care about insurance requirements, you never have to have a recurrent in the CJ again. You can do your BFR in a 152 if you want.

Now, if you plan on utilizing the ability to fly as a crewmember, with a co-pilot, with your CE525S type rating, then you'll have to do a PPE. But, if you plan on flying single pilot part 91 and don't care about insurance requirements, LEGALLY you never have to be checked in the CJ again. Ever.

2 types

Your friend had a type in one turbojet aircraft. At the time that his recurrent comes up (1 year), he goes and gets a different turbojet type. This give his original type an additional year until he has to do recurrent in that aircraft. So, in otherwords, he does recurrent every other year in alternating types and is current in both.

A recurrent is not required in the CJ, unless your friend is flying a CJ with a co-pilot or is flying it part 135. Doesn't matter how many other airplanes he is or isn't flying.

I don't understand what you mean. He'd have to do a recurrent in the Lear, or the Hawker, but not the CJ.

Gotcha. We are on the same page. The original question, though, was if he'd need a recurrent in the CJ.

My friend, you need to read the original question...he asked what the FAR minimum was....

The CJ, CJ1 and CJ2 are all under 12,500 lbs.

I've already answered the question for him. I think we can bow out now.
