My wife is about to give birth to our first child and I'm looking for thoughts, information, advice...etc on flying (general aviation type) with children, particularly with infants. I'd appreciate any input on the subject. I'm particularly interested in opinions as to whether it's more trouble than it's worth....basically looking at 6-7 hours in a car vs. two in a small plane to grandma's house.

Thanks

According to ExpressJet's FA of the Month: Baby Benadryl is the answer.

Seriously, I'd wait awhile on the GA route for a couple of reasons.
1) Noise dB impact on the newborn’s hearing.
2) Diapers in turbulence –- that has “bad day” written all over it. After the first few bm’s you’ll understand.
3) Pit stops for 2) and feeding (again turbulence and noise issues).

Finally, if it’s normally 6-7 hrs by car, figure about 8 with the infant.

Best of luck. Congrats, too!

Make sure they don't have colds, give them something to chew on for descents, they will need to pee, in my experiences, they usually fall asleep, same with dogs.
