re: Deal in the works for Delta

Rumor mill has it there is a pilot deal in the works now at Delta. Apparently the management folks at Delta finally got smart. Or was it pressure from American Express and GE Capital? It will be interesting to see what kind of deal is being hammered out.

I'm just curious but why do you presume it was the mangement who got smart and not the pilots?

Maybe it is because we are talking to "XXXXXXXXX"' ourselves. Also, we have commitments from 3 airlines (SkyTeam) in Europe that will strike ALONG with us if needed. Their managements are probably calling G(J)erry and asking him what is going on. Needless to say we have other things going on on the side.

I doubt any European pilot gives a rats tail about our problems over here. Nice thought though General.

That's not what happened at our Amsterdam MEC meeting with all of the corresponding SkyTeam members. Oh, but you know differently. Riiiiiiight. I know the details. So does our management.

I don't know that any deal is forthcoming. I think any rumor might be based on GG's comments that he "hopes" for a deal by this spring. Other than that there is no negotiating right now during the arbitration sessions, as far as I know.

Because GJerry has an ego to protect....Do you think he wants to be known as the guy who put DL in chp 7? He has to try and save face....Plus (and more likely) he will probably recieve $$millions when this is all said and done.
JMHO, but I don't believe there will be a strike!

Will vote NO to any more pay cuts!

Was there any doubt? No way will DALPA strike. The "agreement" will have a figleaf of face-savings for the union, but it'll be a defeat nevertheless.

Thanks soothsayer. Wow, you really went out on a stretch for that remarkable set of comments. The facts remain though, that any TA with more pay cuts or major scope changes (larger RJs) will very likely be shot down in the voting. Sounds like a major defeat, right? Riiight.

Could someone clarify the point of the arbitration? Is it binding?

No. This arbitration is ONLY to decide if the 1113c will go through. If it does, and we have our contract thrown out, then we are free to strike. The company doesn't think so, but we do. Without a contract, we are no obligated to come to work.

Not "obligated" to come to work....but in all likelihood, probably will. Let's face it, with the market the way it is today , the average airline pilot doesn't have much in the way of negotiating leverage. And walking away in a huff won't do much in the way of putting food on your table or keeping the roof over you're head. It's a nasty position to be in ....good luck to all.

The main leverage we have is management and creditor GREED. They saw what UAL got (stock now near $43), and they want a piece. Management at UAL got 8% of the stock, and the creditors even more. They will get NOTHING if we liquidate. Yeah, we could be out of a job, but most of the Captains who are left are disgruntled and have no pension anyway. The Creditors, who are pulling the strings now, have the most to lose, and we know it. We also don't have the pension carrot dangling over our heads. It is gone. We shall see.

Reallhy sad to see some of the boneheads and pricks come out of the woodwork to insult the Delta pilots when they are in a tough spot. You jackasses that would like to see the Delta pilots fail will get what you deserve if that happens . . . . . unfortunately, so will the rest of us, too.

Good luck, Delta guys. Hang tough. I think you will prevail.

Well if a pilot hell a person is smart they live within their means that or they save, save, save. I know pilots that have anywhere between $200-300k in a strike funds to sustain themselves in the event their company goes on strike and still be able to put food on the table for their familes and get the bills paid.
