C'mon, what's the issue with these things? Why do I have to feel like a dork everytime I wear them? As far as I'm concerned, they're the best glasses you can buy with a measly $100. The quality is good, and they are very comfortable. I even wear them when I drive. I don't do it to look cool or to be a "poser". I just think they are good glasses for the money, plain and simple. Am I really a dork for wearing them??? This is getting ridiculous...

Well.....

They only look cool if you have the white scarf to go with them.

My girlfriend keeps trying to get me to buy some RayBans because she thinks they would look good on me but I just can't do it. I can't explain exactly why, I just can't do it.

I personally like Ray Bans. I've worn them for years. I have switched to Maui Jims Titanium for driving and fishing. They are absolutely weightless, but I can't wear them when flying because they are polarized. They black out all the CRTs in the cockpit and I can't see out the windscreens.

I did recently buy a pair of mirrored Gargoyles, because my Chief Airman Deluxe says he hates sunglasses where you can't see the person's eyes.

A measley $100 bucks? I just spent the most I ever have on a pair of shades at Bass Pro Shops last week. I was feelin' kinda rich, so I shelled out the 20 bucks!:pimp:

I'm not wealthy at all, but $100 is not a whole lot to spend on a quality pair of sunglasses that you hope to use for a few years. (In my opinion)

That's just the deal....... I always seem to lose, step on, sit on, squash or scratch to he11 every pair I've ever owned. I figure if I keep with the cheapo's, I'm better off....... I know what your saying, though.

Yes, you get the laughs and the remarks. But I think they are great for flying. The side things which go over your ears are nice and thin so you can barely tell you have them on while wearing your headset. And the lenses are so big you have an unobstructed, albeit shaded view of everything. I have a pair of "normal" sun glasses for driving though.

I have a pair of prescription, polarized Ray Ban aviators and I love them. Very comfortable but pretty costly, I think I paid $200+ for them (bc of the prescription). I don't currently fly an airplane with CRT's so I have no problem with the polarized part but I will think about that next time I change my lenses in case in the near future that would be a concern

Hey Skyranger, I fly a straight 400 Beechpig....I mean jet. We have mostly steam gauges, but the polarized lenses cause problems with the radar, the nav system, a GNS-XLS, the new RVSM altimeters and the pilot's VSI. It's digital and incorporates TCAS.

Just wanted to let you know it effects things besides EFIS.

I think I'll start a new movement. Steam Gauges Forever!!! Down with EFIS, up with steam gauges.

I've had a pair of Ray Ban Predator 8 for about five or six years now. I even wipe them almost daily with a paper towel or a tissue...no scratches whatsoever. Whatever you wear, make sure you have UV protection. Many of the cheaper glasses don't have adequate UV protection and all you're doing is dialating your pupil and allowing more UV into your eye.

$100?! I just got some good shades at Sam's Club. They come as a pack of 12 sunglasses, and there are about 8 different styles. AND they have that stamp that says they are certified for eye protection (like when you're using electric tools). Total price: $26. I pass them out whenever a bud doesn't have a pair, too. Cheaper than buying them a beer (although I still will buy them a beer, too).

Ha, yeah, you're a dork. Aviator glasses go well with the leather jacket, the white scarf, and the license plate frame that says.......'My other car is a C172" (or pick your plane/jet).

Now, if you're really cool, you don't give a rat's about what others think!

Fugawe

Just got a pair of RayBan Flight series shades and I love em, non-polarized so they don't mess up the CRT's or Windscreens and have an excellent warranty.
