Please...for the love of God....stop offloading my crew bag!
My bag is a black, 22in, standard with crew tags. It's strapped into the the far section of C2 for a reason, where the pax bags never go. It's one of three bags back there WITHOUT one of those black & white tags with a city code on it. I know: CRAZY!
It's supposed to get off the a/c when I get off the a/c....not before. Three times in 4 days is insane, and if I didn't live where I drop off the RON, I'd have to hurt somebody. Thank You.

maybe put a big orange sticker on the side that says 'THIS IS THE CAPTAINS BAG - ONLY THE CAPTAIN TOUCHES THIS BAG'

Well, my bag has 3 CREW tags on it, and it still gets taken off several times a trip. That is now the first thing in the f/o's walkaround, a stop at the cargo compartment to make sure our bags are still there.

if it's happening on the same stations, let it get taken off and note who does it. Then apply remedial training to the guy!

Not sure which airline/hub we're talking about... but it really doesn't matter: they all do it!

One of our guys had such a problem with it, he used a bicycle lock and cable, and physically locked it into the aircraft, with an extra crew tag on the cable. And yet they still pulled on it, fumbled with the cable, trying to figure out why they couldn't get the bag out.

It's a bright yellow tag that says "Crew" for a reason! Arrgggh. The physical barrier is apparently the only method that works. It's like a condom for your bag. :D

Define remedial training for me, is that the "Easton" or the "Big Bertha" method of training?

:D

I hate to gloat, but if I'm less than early getting out to the airplane and the rampers are motivated, they'll actually volunteer to put my bag back there for me! It's like valet service, totally rocks! Thank you, DEN.

I say...kick their butt!

I'll pay to see that!

Check Yourself

If you have not noticed yet, there is a DIRECT relationship between how much of an ass you are to the ramp workers and how often your bag gets taken off!

I'm actually VERY nice to everyone at work. I go out of my a lot for the ramp & Ops people everyday, most are good friends in the out-stations that I see on my down time. I don't complain and throw a fit, and I pull my own weight, thank you very much. So let's just get that out of the way up front. :p

It doesn't just happen to me, it's been happening a lot to everyone flying through LAX. This comes on the heels of gate checked bags being pilfered for laptops a few weeks ago. And the ramp crew chief can't/won't do anything about it.

We have also thought about loading the bags up ourselves and locking them onto the far back cargo net, but didn't know if that was ok or not. One of the captains now has CREW embroidered in bright yellow on his bag. I finally talked to the supervisor this morning, so I hope they correct the problem!

Well

We venture to guess it's newbies training on the ramp and not enough supervision. From now on, the walk around will include visual confirmation of the crew bags! Great idea!

This happened to me on a FedEx ramp once. I had my overnight bag in Pod A of the mighty Ice Machine (the Caravan). I was up top closing out the paperwork and when I got out to collect my things, my things weren't there!

Luckily, the cans had not pulled away yet, so I was able to recover my stuff.

Just a case of a new guy going all gung ho and throwing everything down there on to the belt. I've even seen the tie downs going up a belt once and the guy loading the can had a "WTF" look on his face.

My soloution is to now get out of the airplane and take my stuff out of the pod before they start unloading and setting it by the nosewheel. Seems to work so far.

I'm not sure which airline (Comair or ASA possibly) have bright yellow bags that say CREW on them. These bags stay in the cargo compartment and the crew puts thier bags into them. They are like a giant yellow canvas grocery sac.

Made absolutely no difference.
