Random ATC question

It seems like lately there have been more frequent instances of other controllers coming in and correcting instructions issued by the controller just seconds ago. Are these guys in training and then trainer is taking over....or is there someone watching over each controller...or even a handful of "supervisor types" watching over a few controllers at a time and then stepping in on the scope that looks like its getting messed up?

Training was my initial thought, but there have been a few times where old guys (familiar voices) have had the same thing happen. Are there supervisors roaming around keeping an eye on the big picture or are guys not in training just on their own?

It's not your imagination. I've noticed the same thing.

There are tons of trainees in the system. WAY WAY WAY too many to be safe. But the FAA isn't concerned about safety, so keep an eye on the runway when you are cleared for takeoff.

Ditto that. It's easy to get complacent with the great job ATC does the vast majority of the time, but there's no substitute for knowing what's going on around you.

I have NEVER seen a supe plug in and override a CPC controller.....
Too much liability and at many big facilities supes are not certified on more than a few of the positions in the Facility/Area they supervise and many are not comfortable on the ones they can work. Not a slam just the way it is.
Furthermore if it really got down to that, the supe is just going to order the controller to act. The controller is going to comply then work under Article 65 relieving him/her of further responsibility. Comply then grieve is how Federal Service LMR works. So this scenario is possible but unlikely.
