I get paid $9.00 for doing my work, and the work of a few lazy pieces of **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** who would rather be smoking a joint next to a fuel truck.

you know what, i cannot tell you how many times some old clown comes down to be a gate check hero, gets in the way, and we all have to wait for him to finish attempting to reach the one little stroller in a 737 bin 1. the best part is, he askes us to pull up the belt loader, so he can reach it.

anywho, i just had to vent about the gate check heros, don't be one. it's fine to grab a stroller from a guy who is carrying a wheel chair, two little strollers, and a walker up a 2nd story jet bridge....

but theres no need to get in the bin, you'll get your shirts dirty, and if you're really like, you'll get someone who dropped out of high school to hit you with a belt loader, or maybe you won't notice that theres dog piss or fish juice all over the bin floor when you reach in to be a gate check hero.

And also remember, theres quite a few pilots on the ramp as well, and stupid **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** you guys in the cockpit do, we notice, laugh at, and usually look out for you next time to crack a good joke or too. Yeah, that's right, real pilots, Private through CFII/MEI.

College students too, we're not braindead, we just need money, and if **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** hits the fan on the ramp, 99.99999% of the time it is the fault of the idiots who don't give a **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** about their job, and won't do it unless they are hounded by a supervisor. Either that or a gate change, those seem to throw everyone off who thinks they don't have to go to the other side of the airport because that is where their plane is.

**** explanations for stupidness ****

Burned Bags = Someone didn't feel like driving a tug a half mile, instead they raided a terminator of all its soda and crew meals, and hit on the husky female coworker.

No Agents @ Gate on Arrival = Supervisor assigned a gate full of morons, who all decided to let someone else do their work. So someone gets pulled off of each surrounding gate to make up for people hiding in baggage carts, and even as far as the **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** parking garage to smoke a cigarette.

Big a$$ fuel hydrant, chocks, cones in safety zone/ingestion zones on arrival = morons don't understand that if things hit the airplane, it costs money, and that since they see it needs to be move, OBVIOUSLY some other sucker will do it, even if they have to run all the way across the ramp to do it.

Waiting more than 2 minutes for a GPU = everyone is too short to reach the connector on something like a 757 and arent intelligent enough to grab a step ladder, or pull up a belt loader, or they don't know how to operate the diesel cart ones, or, they didn't give a **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** cuz someone always does it for them.

No bypass pin for push = some moron pocketed it, and probably went home with it, they always reapear the next day.

***********

Finally, some ramp agents don't do jack **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** the entire time they are at work, but talk, hide, and eat. Some do their jobs, and then theres a lot of guys who help keep a ramp going, who don't mind doing extra because those are the pilots. I guarantee you I don't know one on the ramp who doesn't go beyond what he's charged with to make up for some dickheads laziness. These **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** for brains don't get away with it either, they get fired, but the companies seem to always hire **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** for brains in every batch.

WOW, RANT OVER. You go throw bags non stop for a few hours, and I am sure you would appreciate more than $9.30 an hour.

MOST RAMPERS ARE UNDERPAID. Your $50,000.00 a year ones work at airlines that have gone bankrupt, HMMMMMM.

I must say, I have a much better appreciation for rampers now.

I'd like to see some of the pilots I deal with on a day to day basis work in my shoes for a week. I think they would have a better understanding of what we do, and figure out that $10 an hour doesn't really cut it when we are dealing with safety of flight issues. Yeah, some of the ramp rats for the legacy carriers are lazy piles of dookie, but thank the unions for that. After being in a de-ice bucket for 15 hours straight, you sometimes wonder if it is all worth it.....

Metro I think you missed TonyC's (hilarious) point.

A good team of rampers could be worth a lot if they can consistently get aircraft turned around fast and making money again. So I'd say the SWA crew is being paid appropriatly. What's wrong with hard work being rewarded if you're contributing to the company's success?

How many times has this theme been vented on here: pilots are underpaid. Just too many of us want to fly, supply and demand. Not as much competition for ramping jobs.

Financial security is a bit of an illusion (crime, illnesses, stock market crashes, bankrupt companys, frivolous lawsuits, etc) and with more money I'd probably just buy more stuff (like health insurance!) I'm not saying I spend frivolously (that'd be fun huh) 'cause I can't afford to but perhaps this "vow of poverty" I took to switch careers has been good for me, taught me to live more simply and consume less, appreciate the small things. Preparation for furlough?! Now how much longer till I upgrade...what's the captain making...

Fly part 135, you get the best of both worlds, ramping and flying.

You have people lined up willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars to be an airline pilot. There's many out there that would do it for free if they could. What motivation does the airline have to raise wages?

I know, my post had a lot of "censoring" of words like $hit, d@mn, etc

49 is right, but then how do you force a company to pay you what you want when they really know you'll do it for so little.

raise the bar, but thats a main topic on this forum. you guys have to fix it. good luck. i'll join the effort when my time comes, if it ever does.
