Talent shortages in in-demand jobs will continue to drive up wages.
Despite lingering high unemployment, companies will continue to have trouble filling openings for airline pilots and select white-collar jobs, as well as skilled laborers such as tool and die makers due to talent shortages in those fields. As a result, people with highly sought-after skills can expect to see pay raises “much higher” than the average as companies try to keep them from jumping to the competition, Jesuthasan says.

And a college degree will not be necessary to get many of these good jobs, like pilot and tool and die workers because they are based skills to operate equipment not a piece of paper that proves one's superiority.

NBC news is a joke. an embarrassment to the country.

Why does anybody still watch NBC news? I wonder how low their ratings are. I do watch MSNBC sometimes for the comedic effect, a rather motley collection of "journalists" for sure!

Funny you would bring that up, I have been thinking about whether a college degree is worth much any more too, unless for a specific credential such as Engineering, etc. We all know how valuable a degree in Sociology is, for instance. Or Gender Studies. :)

A college degree is important if the qualifications for the job you seek require one. You play by the rules until somebody changes them. The goal is to become the person that makes the rules.
