quik ? for air tran pilots

i have been trying to get an interview with airtran for a while now.
2 letters of REC. more than enough hrs. and experience ( 121 ) but no pic 121. no place to upgrade. just lucky to be employed at this point.
am i doomed now that they have the 500 pic turbine 121 req?

i went to the airinc show in atl to talk to them and they did not say that i was definitly eliminated. Given the pilots that were there,however, i felt like a junior CFI at a 777 recurrent class.

just weighing my options-any input will help!

One of my best friends is in the same position as you at Piedmont and Ive done everything but Voodoooooo to get him an interview. Some people have been hired with no 121 pic but the have different qualifications. As far as an answer all I can say is I dont know.

Kinda similar deal here.........close to 2000 turbine PIC in a Js31 but all part 135 time. Have a buddy that used to be the IT Manager there. Is 121 ALL important in my situation?

No doubt they are looking for 121 PIC time. Are you at all competitive without it? I don't know. They can afford to be selective and they certianly seem to be. I have a few friends recommended and they haven't heard anything.

My newhire class (5+ yrs ago) had a guy in it with only 135 VFR time flying grand canyon tours in a cessna 402. He never made it through the sim. Funny how things change.

Considering your ultimate goal of UAL and an overall “greyhound” outlook for LCC’s they may not want you for reasons other than your 121 time (lack of) regardless of the “stack” contents.

BTW, Airtran does “allow you to live comfortably in ONE house and support your family.....whatever the equipment.”

Just an observation.

Dash 8 guy - plenty of 121 f/o's hired in the past. Having a little loyalty / commitment to your potential (current) employer does go a long way, especially at Airtran & especially in today's market. Keep trying. Good luck.

These are the "official" minimum qualifications as published on the website. The actual competitive times are siqnificantly higher, and also require either an internal recommendation or attendance at a job fair.

AirTran Airways is currently accepting resumes and conducting interviews for First Officer Positions.

Minimum Qualifications:


Fixed wing flight time - 2500 hours
Multi-engine, fixed wing flight time - 1000 hours
121 PIC or military equivalent - 500 hours
An ATP certificate, or successful completion of the ATP written exam
Current First Class Medical certificate
Valid passport
Legally eligible for employment in the United States
Free of felony convictions within the most recent 10 years

Thanks for the info... Sounds redundant... Correct me if I'm wrong, but how could someone have the 500hrs 121 PIC without an ATP? I guess that would only apply to military applicants.

Anyone without the 1000 hours turbine PIC or in this case 121 PIC is severely limited in today's competative environment.

Crosscut......the only reason I even mentioned UAL at all was the fact that I had freinds over there. BY NO MEANS am I thinking that UAL is the place to be right now. Furthermore, Airtran would the IDEAL place for me and my long-term future. My ex and my daughter live an hour away from ATL and would KILL to see my little girl more than 3 weeks a year (providing that I am still on call all of those days). We have 3 crews for 4 airplanes (still haven't worked the math on that one yet).

Airtran looks great on paper and from what I have read on here the pilot group is happy and tight. I am not bashing nor would EVER bash anybody over there. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
