I'm looking for a school to get my cfi finished. I've done all the ground and the flying is almost done.

The local fsdo has a 80% failure rate (so they say) and I'm not looking to bust this ride.

Do anyone know of a place to get it done quick, under 2 weeks.

Thanks in advance

Sheble Aviation

Sheble Aviation will finish you fast and you will leave with your ticket.

On the other hand, the course cost of $4,115 is pretty heavy bread, especially if you have already shelled out money for ground and flying.

Any chance you can go to a DE or different FSDO?

CFI

Even the local DE's have a rep for being 'blood hounds'. I do have confidence in myself, but I've heard countless stories of DE's busting applicants over the smallest things.
A different FSDO is possible but which one?

FSDO

Give a general idea where you live and you should get some ideas about alternative FSDOs and/or examiners.

yikes, that's a low pass rate!

I have heard that about the FSDO in L.I. I think if they actually did the numbers, their pass rate would probably be around 50-60%. I think it is unfortunate that there is such an adversarial relationship between the FSDO and the pilot community.
I live in one of the more challenging FSDO districts (Orlando) and my CFI ride with the inspector was a blast. I think I lucked out.
So don't write off the FSDO completely, but definitely consider a DE if you're concerned about busting.
Oh yeah, the school part...I second ATP. I was never a student there but they're quick and fairly inexpensive. And the examiners are usually "sympathetic" to your cause.

i went to Airman flight school in Norman, Oklahoma. I had a decent experience. I think it was about $5000 for my CFII/I. They have in house testing so no FAA. your CFII is 1st with the check airman, then your CFI is that add on with a local 80 yr old DE.

I stayed at a travel-lodge. the owners are middle eastern and very creepy. it almost seemed like the bates motel. aside from that, there was one CFI that I really clashed with. but if you can stand to eat Taco Cabana and Waffle House for 3 weeks, then its doable.

Good Luck.

. . . who very well may be Bud Bricker. Bud's an alright guy. He ran the PWA FSDO before he retired and had the reputation of being a hardass. I took three practicals with Bud after he retired to be a DE. He treated me fairly and was very professional. I liked Bud so well that I sent one of my two Oklahoma City signoffs to him. I had to send the other to another examiner only because Bud wasn't available.

Try to make it up to OKC and/or out to Ada for barbecue at least a couple of times. You won't be disappointed.

That's a thought. Maybe I could get a deal on the price. I'm going to make a phone call in the morning

In dallas, you must take the initial with the FSDO and add ons can be completed by a DE.

Is it the same in OK?

Could I complete my training in Dallas and then schedule the checkride with the DE you are talking about?

do you have any idea what its like to be a vegetarian surrounded by BBQ???????

Tug driver there are several dpes in tulsa but the okc fsdo must approve it It is the same with the kansas city fsdo. I have sent applicants to the kc fsdo and had great results. They are very fair but very thorough. You better know your stuff know matter where you go.

Sheble is the place to go?

Could someone tell me more about Sheble Aviation? Is it a 141 school? Does the FSDO do the checkride for CFI or the two inhouse DE's? Reading some past topics on Sheble, it sounds like all checkrides are inhouse and quite informal. Going to get my CFI/II/MEI beginning next year after I saved up some more money $$$ this fall/winter. Just looking for a painless school that is reasonable cost. Not looking forward to FAA check. Sounds like Sheble students almost always pass, right? Looking for other schools if someone has any experiences with other schools. Thanks.

Sheble v. FSI

Most definitely not. I went to Sheble's for my ATP. Sheble is absolutely not your father's flight school. For me, after my only full-time aviation employment being ERAU, Sheble was major culture shock. It was beyond informal. I still recall the cats living in the hangar.

See above. More than likely, not. You spend a couple of weeks there and take your practical.

The place is not all that painless because you need to arrive prepared. You probably won't get much actual flight training - although by the time you are going for your CFI you shouldn't need much. You probably won't get much training in how to instruct students. But you will get your ticket.

Reasonable? Compared to places such as FlightSafety, etc., yes.
Not looking forward to FAA check.
Now, a place such as FlightSafety is indeed your father's flight school. I know; I instructed there for a little more than a year and trained three students for their CFIs. You will receive real training. You will, indeed, pay for it. You will be prepared to pass your practical with FSDO or whoever. I don't know if street CFI students receive the same consideration for post-graduate employment as students who go through the entire program.

I do not know at all if a place like Comair accepts street students for its CFI program. Most major flight schools will try to work with you on a Part 61 basis for nearly any certificate or rating.

Pick your poison. Good luck with whatever direction you choose.
