I have to fly the boss (he's sponsoring a driver) to Daytona on Saturday 2/17 for the Orbitz 300 (?). I know nothing about what to expect. We are flying in Saturday morning and leaving that same afternoon/evening. Will I experience the mad rush that I hear about on Sundays or is Saturday a non-event? What about slots to get in on Saturday?

Anything else? Thank you.

I don't fly for a team but I did witness this process for a race in PHX.

The team aircraft begin arriving early in the week (for Daytona it might be sooner) and the ramp slowly fills up until it hits it's peak on Sunday morning.

If you arrive and depart on Saturday, you're gonna completely miss the rush that happens after the Cup race on Sunday. After the Saturday race, there were a few team aircraft that departed, but not enough to cause any problems.

Non-event.....No STMP @ DAB this year. There will be a line-up after the 500, but that has moved fairly well the past few years provided the weather is not a factor. Try www.rtaa.org for the latest notams and recommended routings.

Isn't this over stepping it a little?

Texx,

Howdy Pardner,

What exactly am I overstepping? "Nascar Air Force" is the name I frequently see used in reference to the flight operations (as a whole) of NASCAR teams. You know something I don't? I'd love to hear what I overstepped.

To everyone else - I thank you for your input. I am relieved to hear that we won't have a long taxi after the race. There is a beer (or many) waiting for me after we land.

And the reason behind using "Air Force" for a civilian group? Educate me.

Life is much too short to argue over semantics. The reason behind using "air force" to describe this group of pilots and their aircraft is really self-explanatory. Judging from your profile, I assume your military service was, of course, USAF. Well, thank you for defending my right to use the words "air force" to describe something that everyone surely knows has absolutely no affiliation with the United States Air Force.

Have a good evening.

I think someone is a little insecure about his position.

Give me a break and relax a little.

Moved farily well??? You must have had a primo parking spot and got right out. I have done this trip the last 3 years and have never taxied for less than 1:45.
Heres an idea, How hard would it be to use a gate hold procedure like they do at TEB? Call Clnc Del. Get on the list. Monitor ground. They call and tell the next 5-6 aircraft to start 'em up, first come first serve.....seems alot easier than the chaos that usually happens. In any event, I hope this year everyone will be a little more tolerant/patient than last year.

We've tried and tried to get our group to leave on Monday morning but no such luck...........

well put

Wow, very well put MTHatch. I would've just said Tex, sorry about your P*nis.

You kill me

 FoxJet,

You are killing me! I'm trying to go easy on the guy.

Nice moustache, by the way. ;)

NASCAR Air Force, Vans Air Force, KISS Army, Operation Toes Militia, French Army. I'm sure the list continues.

Tex......take 'er easy, my man.

French Army...ba ha ha ha....no really....YOUR KILLING ME...almost spit out my coffee!!

Delays at the NASACR events are directly related to how deep your buried on the ramp, single vs. multiple runway operations, and finally, did your guy crash in lap 90, NO RUSH on that early departure!!!!

Oh and Texx, deep breath man...relax!

And the reason behind using "Air Force" for a civilian group? Educate me.

Maybe because it's been proven that civvy guys can do it just as well as you AF gifts to aviation.. ;)

Just out of curiosity. How does one "Volunteer" for NASCAR "Air Force" or does one usually get "Drafted" by an old "War" buddy who you flew with down in the "Trenches" when you were "In-Country" at the regionals?

(Did I over do it? Or did I hit the three wire?)

not only is it called the nascar airforce but if you talk to most atc folks who work the traffic they refer to it as the redneck airforce

Rubbin's racin' boys.. get ust' to it..
