Questions about Reserve at Southwest

Of course, things are changing with a FO shift toward BWI in Jan. Who knows what will happen with this anticipated expansion.

Does this mean new hires will go to BWI out of class instead of OAK?

I'd like nothing more than to see new hires go to BWI, but I don't think it's going to happen any time soon. The January vacancy bid doesn't have anything to do with the classes that are starting. Between ground school, IOE, and the one month hard line the January new hires won't bid a normal month until April or later.

It will be interesting to see just how junior those BWI slots go, though. For all you folks senior to me, I hear MDW is a fantastic place to be based!!!

I'd like to see everyone out of class stay at DAL, however, that's NOT going to happen, so if it's OAK that's fine, BWI... that's going to be fun jumpseating home.

Hard to tell how junior BWI will be. Obviously, I don't have the big picture on expansion at my level. Just keep in mind that no one from the last 5 classes has made it to BWI or MCO yet, so those folks will be bidding in there ahead of any new hires (5 guys in my class still trying to get there). The best thing for everyone down at the bottom is obviously growth.

I agree that Jan base bid has nothing to do with Jan new hire classes (April will be their first bid period). Just trying to indicate a shift in FO population coming soon, which may break the cycle of everyone junior going west (OAK) and then having to work back to the east (PHX-HOU-MDW-etc.) as has been the case this past year.

Well I just got my first hard line off reserve after 13 months here in BWI if that gives you some indication of how long you may be on reserve.

RIght now for new hires the senority of bases goes like this (most senior to most junior). DAL, MCO, BWI, HOU & PHX, MDW, OAK. When hiring was going on a bit a year ago classmates in MDW were on reserve for a month or so, Oak a few months, MCO guys still trying to get based there and more recently guys got displaced from MCO.

OAK sucks from a crash pad standpoint as there are none only cheap dirty hotels. MDW I here is the best place for crashpads and transportation is easy. BWI a lot of us live in the general area, PA, DC, Balt. Annapolis, ect

Good luck and get started so the senority moves again.

Well I wish MDW was more junior than PHX but I am on reserve in MDW and can hold a line, blank line at least in PHX. It's not just senior FO's bidding reserve either, 40 or so below me in PHX when I was displaced in September and only about 5 below me in MDW. I hope that the January vacancy bid moves some of these guys out of MDW and over to BWI where they want to be.

-4 months in OAK NEVER sat reserve

-2 months in PHX both on reserve.

-Hard line in PHX for december because senior folks bid reserve for holidays off.

-Been trying to get BWI the whole time. (ATL commuter)

Canyonblue is right . OAK is most junior, then PHX, HOU, then MDW, BWI, MCO and finally DAL.

With the amount of MCO displacements for JAN, I expect little movement from west to east as I figure most of those displaced will go to BWI.
