do you use computers to calculate take off and landing performance or manuals? Also, is the thrust reverses considered for landing performance?

Computer generated manuals. One thrust reverses is never used in considering landing performance. Hope this helps.

I think I misunderstood RJones post the first time, not really knowing what a 'computer generated manual' is. But when I go to work to fly the barney jets, we use an Onboard Performance Computer (tablet type laptop) to calculate both takeoff and landing performance. The 300/500 do not include thrust reverse in the landing calculation, however the FAA/Boeing approved 700 computer does.
It really only matters if braking is fair or poor, but MAY have been a factor at Midway. We'll have to wait for the final NTSB report to know for sure.

firstthird,

As I understand it, the OPC gives a runway remaining figure for the landing distance calculation and that the accident crew got a figure in the 500-600' range. Is there any guidance as to how much runway remaining is acceptable and at what point it is not?

Our landing distance charts are rather crude tables with all of the data for an airport listed on a single page. Since the information is so crude there is a healthy amount of rounding to the conservative side.

Thanks...
